Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Finds Solid Xbox Audience Two Years After PS5 Debut

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth appears to have made a strong start on Xbox despite arriving on the platform roughly two years after its original PS5 release.

Square Enix says the RPG was among the new titles that helped improve performance in its HD Games business during the three months ended June 30, 2026. The company reported higher sales and operating income in the segment, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows specifically named as one of the contributors.

The result suggests there was still meaningful demand for Rebirth on Xbox even after its earlier platform exclusivity.

Square Enix reported a 32.3% increase in net sales during the quarter, while operating income rose 88.6%.

The publisher linked the improvement in its HD Games segment to new releases including Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, alongside stronger catalog sales.

The company did not disclose a separate Xbox sales figure for Rebirth, so there is no exact unit total showing how many copies were sold specifically on Microsoft’s consoles.

Still, Square Enix describing the game’s performance as solid and including it among the titles driving segment growth indicates the later release found an audience.

Digital purchases dominate Square Enix sales

The financial results also showed how heavily Square Enix’s game business now leans toward digital distribution.

Digital purchases represented 90.2% of sales, compared with just 9.8% for physical copies. Those figures cover the company’s overall software business rather than Xbox alone.

That broader split is relevant to Rebirth because the Xbox version entered a market where digital purchases already represent the overwhelming majority of Square Enix software sales.

The game also received a 40% discount during the recent Xbox Ultimate Summer Sale, while Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was discounted by 65%. Those promotions likely gave both entries greater visibility on the Xbox Store.

The final part will not repeat the staggered release

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth followed a delayed release pattern, reaching Xbox after first launching elsewhere.

Square Enix is changing that approach for the final entry in the remake trilogy.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for Spring 2027 and is planned to launch simultaneously on Xbox, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

That means Xbox players should no longer face the long wait that separated the earlier releases.

The shift also fits Square Enix’s broader move toward making major games available across more platforms rather than relying as heavily on staggered exclusivity.

Rebirth’s Xbox performance gives the company another indication that older titles can still find meaningful demand when they eventually reach additional platforms.

With Revelation set for a simultaneous launch next year, the full Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will have a more consistent presence across Xbox going forward.
