Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Is Expected to Need Around 200GB of Storage

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is expected to require around 200GB of storage when it launches in 2027, making it the largest entry in the remake trilogy so far.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi said the final install size has not yet been locked down because development is still ongoing. However, the current estimate is around 200GB, which would place Revelation above the storage demands of the previous two games.

The size is also one of the reasons every physical edition will require an additional download. The development team reportedly chose not to reduce the scope of the game simply to fit everything onto the available physical media.

Square Enix still plans to release a boxed version, but the disc will not contain the complete game.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation key details

A 200GB install would make Revelation one of the larger single player RPGs, although it would still fall below some of the biggest PC installations available today.

ARK: Survival Evolved can exceed 400GB when multiple maps and DLC packs are installed, while Call of Duty installations have also reached or passed 300GB depending on the combination of games, Warzone content, language packs, and optional files.

Revelation is different because its estimated size applies to a single major RPG rather than a collection of multiple games or large expansion packs.

Physical copies will not contain the entire game

The storage requirement has direct consequences for the physical release.

Previous entries used multi disc physical packages, but Revelation is expected to exceed the capacity available from those formats. Instead of reducing assets or changing the game to fit the discs, the development team decided to require an extra download.

That means buying the boxed edition will still give you a physical product, but an internet connection and additional free storage will be needed before the full game can be installed.

The decision comes at a time when physical game distribution is under increasing pressure from rising file sizes and the limits of optical media.

For players who prefer discs for preservation, ownership, or collection purposes, the requirement may be disappointing because the complete game will not exist entirely on the physical media.

Revelation will close the remake trilogy

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the third and final part of the remake project that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake and continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

The game is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027.

Square Enix is also planning two character focused DLC releases involving Vincent and Sephiroth. It has not yet confirmed when those stories take place relative to the main campaign or whether they will arrive before or after launch.

The large storage target suggests Revelation will continue the trilogy's trend toward bigger environments, more detailed assets, and a broader amount of content.

With development still underway, the final install size could change before release. For now, players planning to install the game should expect to reserve roughly 200GB of free storage.
