Dragon’s Dogma may still have a future at Capcom

Dragon’s Dogma 2 may not be the end of the series after all.

Capcom has listed Dragon’s Dogma among the brands it plans to nurture for long term growth, according to its latest financial report. That matters because fans have been unsure about the franchise’s future since Dragon’s Dogma 2 received relatively quiet post launch support and director Hideaki Itsuno left Capcom.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched successfully in March 2024, but it did not get the same level of continued attention that Capcom gives to series like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, or Street Fighter. That silence made some fans worry the second game might be the franchise’s last major moment.

Capcom’s new report gives a more hopeful signal.

In a section called “Ongoing Maximization of IP Value,” Capcom highlighted several brands it sees as future growth engines. The list includes Mega Man, Onimusha, Ace Attorney, Okami, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, and Dragon’s Dogma.

Capcom IPWhy its inclusion matters
Mega ManAlready expected to continue with new projects
OnimushaReturning with a new release
OkamiAlso being revived
Ace AttorneyRecently received collections and releases
Dead RisingRecently returned through remaster/remake efforts
Devil May CryStill popular, helped by anime and remake rumors
Dragon’s DogmaSignals Capcom may not be done with the series

Dragon’s Dogma is the most interesting name on that list because Capcom has not announced anything new for the franchise yet. Its inclusion suggests the company still sees value in the brand and may use it again.

That could mean several things. Capcom could release an expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, make another full sequel, or even remake the original Dragon’s Dogma. Nothing specific has been confirmed, but the important part is that Capcom does not appear to be abandoning the series.

That should be encouraging for fans. Dragon’s Dogma remains one of Capcom’s most distinct RPG franchises. Its pawn system, climbing based monster combat, strange world design, and open ended adventure structure still make it feel different from most fantasy RPGs.

The disappointment is that some other long requested Capcom series are still missing from this growth list. Breath of Fire and Dino Crisis were not included, which may frustrate fans who have waited years for those franchises to return.

Still, Dragon’s Dogma being named alongside Capcom’s other future focused brands is a positive sign. It does not guarantee DLC or Dragon’s Dogma 3, but it does suggest Capcom sees the series as part of its long term plans.

For now, Dragon’s Dogma fans should not treat the franchise as finished. Capcom has quietly put it back on the board, and that may be the clearest sign yet that there is more to come.
