Dragon’s Dogma 2 Update Adds Eternal Ferrystone as Capcom Prepares Dark Arisen DLC

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has received a major 3.1 title update that adds the Eternal Ferrystone, new Portcrystals, cheaper travel options, quality of life improvements, and a long list of bug fixes ahead of the Dark Arisen DLC expansion. The update is part of Capcom’s larger plan to improve the base game before the expansion launches on October 9, 2026.

The biggest change is fast travel. Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched with limited travel options, which was one of the most debated parts of the game. Capcom has now added the Eternal Ferrystone, a reusable fast travel item that lets players travel to Portcrystals without consuming it like a normal Ferrystone.

Players can obtain the Eternal Ferrystone after speaking to Brant during the Seat of the Sovran quest. If that quest has already been completed, the item will be placed in the player’s inventory.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 finally gets a more forgiving fast travel system

The new update makes exploration less punishing without fully removing the game’s travel identity. Capcom has added Portcrystals to Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp. Another Portcrystal is now available as a reward from the Monster Culling quest.

Oxcart travel has also been improved. Oxcarts now have stopovers, longer departure hours, shorter wait times before the Doze Off command appears, and visible map icons when one is nearby.

Update 3.1 featureWhat it changes
Eternal FerrystoneReusable fast travel item
New PortcrystalsAdded to key locations
Oxcart StopoversMore flexible travel routes

Map improvementFerrystone can be used from the map

These changes should make the game easier to return to for players who enjoyed the combat but disliked the amount of time spent traveling.

Capcom is fixing quality of life problems players complained about since launch

The update goes beyond fast travel. Stamina use while dashing outside combat has been reduced, which should make long walks less tiring. Loading from autosave after defeat no longer increases the loss gauge, which makes mistakes less punishing.

The update also improves inventory management. Players can now transfer multiple item types at once between the Arisen and Pawns. Shopping has been adjusted so players cannot buy more than they can carry of a specific item.

Pawn behavior has also been improved. Pawns should now be less likely to fall from cliffs, recover more stamina when helping the Arisen after exhaustion, and offer a new Guardian specialization. This specialization can help prevent oxcart raids and reduce danger during camp attacks.

The next update may matter even more for returning players

While Update 3.1 brings major quality of life fixes, the next title update planned for the end of August may be the one that convinces more players to return. Capcom says that update will include performance refinements, save system improvements, character action changes, Dragonplague adjustments, UI improvements, enemy stat changes, and more bug fixes.

Performance has been one of the biggest complaints around Dragon’s Dogma 2 since launch. Many console players reported unstable frame rates, especially in busy areas or large fights. If Capcom can smooth out performance before Dark Arisen, the expansion will have a much better chance of bringing players back.

Dark Arisen will add a new region and dungeon challenges

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is planned for October 9, 2026. The expansion will add a new region, new cosmetics, twelve Dungeon Challenges, and other features shaped by player feedback.

The name Dark Arisen carries weight because the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen became the stronger and more complete version of that game. Capcom appears to be trying something similar here, using title updates to improve the base game before releasing the expansion.

That strategy makes sense. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has strong combat, large monsters, and a world full of unpredictable moments, but its rougher systems pushed some players away. Fixing those issues before asking players to buy DLC is the right move.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 may get the second chance it needed

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was always a game with strong ideas and clear frustrations. Its limited fast travel, performance problems, and some rough quality of life choices made it harder to enjoy than it should have been.

Update 3.1 addresses several of those problems directly. The Eternal Ferrystone alone changes how players move through the world, especially for anyone who does not want to spend long sessions walking between familiar locations.

Capcom still needs to prove that the August performance patch can fix the game’s deeper technical issues. If that update lands well, Dragon’s Dogma 2 could enter October in a much stronger state.

Dark Arisen now looks less like a simple expansion and more like part of a broader repair plan. For players who dropped the game early, this may be the first real reason to consider returning.
