Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Will Split Its Focus Between Story Mode and a Massive Online World

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is being built with equal attention on its single player campaign and online multiplayer content, according to its producer. The next entry in the action RPG series is planned for 2027 and will bring players into a new future setting, Age 1000, with a stronger focus on custom characters, social features, and long term online play.

The game takes place 148 years after the events of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Rather than returning to the familiar time travel setup of the earlier games, Xenoverse 3 moves the story forward into a new era centered on West City.

Players will create their own hero and join the Great Saiyan Squad as they explore this future version of the Dragon Ball universe. The story will feature familiar faces as well as original characters created specifically for the game.

Story Mode Will Remain a Dedicated Single Player Experience

The main campaign in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will be designed as a single player experience. It will follow the journey of your custom character and focus on the Great Saiyan Squad, new threats, and events tied to the Age 1000 setting.

The campaign is expected to take roughly 20 to 30 hours for a standard playthrough. That should give the game a more substantial story than many online focused action RPGs, while still leaving room for players to spend far more time in the multiplayer side.

The developer said the story and online modes are receiving an even 50/50 split of development resources. This means the game is not being built as a campaign with multiplayer added later. Both sides are intended to be important parts of the overall experience.

Character Customization Will Be More Flexible

Custom character creation remains one of the main pillars of the Xenoverse series. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is expected to offer more appearance options and more freedom to shape how a character plays.

The game is moving away from rigid class choices. Instead of locking players into fixed archetypes, it will let them swap skills, attributes, and combat styles more freely. You could build a long range fighter, an aggressive melee character, or a more tactical team based build.

Physical appearance will no longer affect gameplay stats. Height and body size will be purely cosmetic, meaning you will not need to choose a certain look just to gain better speed, health, or other advantages.

Players will also have more flexibility to adjust their builds later without deleting progress. The developer said choices will still matter, but changing your character will not require starting from the beginning.

Soul Shifting and Online Features Will Shape the New Game

A new Soul Shifting system will allow players to bring iconic Dragon Ball fighters into battle and use character specific abilities. The full roster has not been confirmed, but the feature is expected to be a major part of how combat changes during matches.

The online side will include co-op missions, competitive activities, difficult endgame encounters, and post launch updates. Bosses in higher level content are expected to use stronger AI behavior, special attacks, and mechanics that require teams to coordinate.

Cross play is also a major priority. The goal is to let players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC play together without platform restrictions.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is shaping up to be a broader and more social follow-up than its predecessors. The single player story will remain important, but the new online sandbox, deeper customization, and cross play plans suggest the game is being designed as a long term Dragon Ball experience rather than a one time campaign.
