DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Is Shaping Up as a Major New Campaign

DOOM: The Dark Ages is about to receive its first major expansion, and early previews suggest Revelations could be far more than a short bonus chapter. The paid DLC launches on July 7 and is expected to add a lengthy new campaign, expanded exploration, tougher combat, and a major new weapon for the Doom Slayer.

Revelations will reportedly include six new levels, including a large hub area called Purgatory. The expansion is said to offer around 10 to 12 hours of content, putting it close to the length of many full games rather than a small add on.

The new chapter arrives more than a year after DOOM: The Dark Ages launched in May 2025. The base game brought the series into a darker medieval setting, mixing brutal close range combat with heavy weapons, shields, and demon filled battlefields.

Revelations adds larger levels and more exploration

The expansion appears to build on the core ideas of The Dark Ages while giving players more reasons to revisit areas. Several preview impressions describe a structure that encourages backtracking, new routes, and additional secrets once the Doom Slayer gains new abilities.

That approach could make Revelations feel closer to a compact campaign sequel than a standard DLC pack. The base game already included larger battle spaces than earlier DOOM titles, but Revelations seems set to push that further through its hub based design.

FeatureWhat it means for players
Six new levelsA substantial new campaign beyond the base game
Purgatory hub areaCentral location that connects parts of the expansion
10 to 12 hours of contentLonger than a typical small DLC pack
Higher difficultyDesigned for players who have finished the main campaign
New progression pathsUnlocks and upgrades open new areas
Backtracking and secretsMore exploration across connected maps
Chain Spear weaponNew movement and combat tool

Players are advised to complete the main story before starting Revelations. The expansion reportedly begins at a higher difficulty level and expects you to understand the mechanics, weapons, and enemy types introduced in the base game.

The Chain Spear could change combat and movement

One of the biggest additions is the Chain Spear, a new tool that appears to have both combat and traversal uses. It can reportedly help the Doom Slayer move quickly around arenas while also opening new paths during exploration.

Mobility has always been central to modern DOOM games, but The Dark Ages had a heavier and more grounded combat style than DOOM Eternal. The Chain Spear could add a more agile layer to fights without moving away from the game’s brutal medieval tone.

The DLC will also include Slayer Trials, puzzles, classic levels, and other endgame style activities. That should give returning players more than just a linear campaign to complete.

Revelations will be available through several editions

DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations will be sold separately, but it is also included with the Premium Upgrade and Premium Edition versions of the game. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.

That means buying the game digitally through Xbox should allow you to access it across supported Xbox consoles and PC devices with the same account.

Revelations looks like a strong reason to return to DOOM: The Dark Ages, especially for players who wanted more of its aggressive combat, heavy weapons, and dark fantasy setting. The final verdict will depend on how well the new levels and progression hold together, but the early signs point to one of the larger DOOM expansions in recent years.
