Cooler Master’s V8 ACE 3DHP is a large single tower air cooler aimed at powerful desktop processors, combining a dense heatsink, six heatpipes and two thick 120mm fans in a design inspired by a V8 engine.

The cooler is positioned as an alternative to liquid cooling for high end systems, although its size, weight and airflow requirements make it better suited to larger cases. The AMD version is listed at $119.99, while Intel availability is currently more limited.

The main technical feature is Cooler Master’s 3DHP design.

Alongside four conventional heatpipes, the cooler includes two additional heatpipes that run vertically from the base plate through the heatsink. The aim is to move more heat away from the processor and distribute it through the dense fin stack.

Separate versions are tuned for AMD and Intel processors, although mounting hardware for both platforms is included.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D test reaches 81.5°C average

Testing with an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D running at around 5.2GHz showed an average CPU temperature of 81.5°C during a 15 minute test, with a peak of 83.5°C.

The cooler was tested on an open air bench and produced lower temperatures on the same processor than a roughly $35 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. No rattling or unwanted motor noise was reported from the fans during testing.

That performance shows the V8 ACE 3DHP can handle demanding processors, but it also highlights why the cooler is positioned at the expensive end of the air cooling market.

At $119.99, there are significantly cheaper air coolers available, and the V8 ACE 3DHP is competing directly with some AIO liquid coolers.

Large dimensions demand strong case airflow

The cooler weighs around 2.57 pounds, or 1.17kg, and measures more than 167mm tall.

Its two 30mm thick PWM fans require a steady supply of cool intake air. Noise under load was measured at at least 55 dBA in the open test setup.

That makes case selection important.

A poorly ventilated chassis, particularly one with a powerful graphics card heating the surrounding air, could reduce CPU cooling performance. Compact systems are therefore not the natural target for this cooler.

RAM clearance was tight during testing but did not cause an actual compatibility problem with the hardware used.

Installation is simpler than its size suggests

Despite its size, installation is relatively straightforward.

On AM5, the cooler connects to the standard motherboard backplate using thumbscrews and mounting plates. The fans slide off the heatsink on rails, giving easier access to the mounting hardware before they are reattached and connected to the CPU fan header.

Those detachable fans do require some care when handling the cooler because they can move if the unit is lifted by the fan housing rather than the center section.

The V8 ACE 3DHP is therefore best suited to builders using a powerful CPU, a roomy case and a strong intake and exhaust setup.

Its price and physical size limit its appeal, but for a system where high end air cooling is preferred over an AIO liquid cooler, the V8 ACE 3DHP delivers strong thermal performance with a distinctive design.
