Remedy Entertainment has released the launch trailer for Control Resonant ahead of the action RPG's September 24 release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
The new footage offers another look at the game's combat and story while placing more attention on Dylan Faden, who returns after spending seven years in a coma. The trailer also features The Cardigans' "My Favourite Game," continuing Remedy's habit of pairing its trailers with recognizable licensed music.
Reviews for Control Resonant are scheduled to arrive on September 18 at 6 AM PST, several days before the full game launches.
Dylan's return remains central to the story
The trailer includes several short conversations that provide more context around Dylan's role in the sequel.
Zoe talks about an opportunity to save the city, while another scene has her asking Dylan why he did not run when he had the chance.
Dylan responds that he never expected to have something worth dying for.
The exchange does not explain exactly what he means, but it reinforces the idea that his motivations will be an important part of Control Resonant's story.

Dylan's history makes his position complicated. He spent much of his life connected to the Federal Bureau of Control and was a major part of the events surrounding the first Control.
His relationship with the Bureau remains strained, and the organization is not necessarily comfortable accepting his help.
That tension appears likely to influence how other characters treat him throughout the sequel.
Finding Jesse may still be part of Dylan's motivation
The trailer does not directly explain what Dylan is prepared to risk his life for.
One possibility is that his motivation is connected to Jesse Faden, although Remedy has not confirmed the full context of the scene.
His newly gained freedom could also be important.
Dylan spent much of his life confined within the Oldest House, leaving him with limited experience of the wider world. Control Resonant gives him an opportunity to operate outside that environment and experience a very different situation from the one that defined his earlier life.

The sequel therefore appears to be using Dylan's return as more than a simple continuation of his previous story.
His perspective after seven years unconscious could become one of the main ways the game explores what has changed since the events of Control.
Remedy keeps the focus on action
Alongside the story scenes, the launch trailer contains more of the fast combat that has been central to Control Resonant's marketing.
Previous footage has shown Remedy moving further toward an action RPG structure while retaining the supernatural setting and abilities associated with the Control universe.
The latest trailer does not introduce a large amount of new gameplay information, but it reinforces the tone Remedy has established in previous demonstrations.
The studio has also previously used licensed music prominently in Control Resonant marketing, including a trailer featuring The Prodigy.
This time, The Cardigans provide the soundtrack as the game approaches release.
With reviews scheduled for September 18 and the full launch arriving on September 24, players will not have much longer to wait to see how Dylan's return, his relationship with the Bureau, and the search surrounding Jesse fit into the larger story.
