CHUWI AuBox X 256V : A Compact AI Mini PC With Strong Performance And A Few Limits

The CHUWI AuBox X 256V is a compact mini PC built for everyday Windows work, local AI tasks, and light creative use. It offers strong performance from Intel’s Core Ultra 7 256V processor, a fast 1TB SSD, plenty of display support, and a very small chassis. The main drawbacks are noticeable fan noise under load, limited USB C connectivity, and a fixed 16GB RAM ceiling.

CHUWI has built its name around affordable laptops, tablets, and small PCs, and the AuBox X continues that approach. It is not a gaming desktop replacement, but it is a capable mini PC for people who want a small Windows machine without paying workstation prices.

The model reviewed by Windows Central includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V, Intel Arc 140V integrated graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5x memory, and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. It costs $829 before any extra discounts, while a lower model with a Core Ultra 5 226V and 512GB SSD starts at $679.

The AuBox X is small, sturdy, and easy to place anywhere

The AuBox X uses a magnesium alloy chassis, which helps keep it light while still feeling durable. It measures about five inches across and weighs 1.27 pounds, so it takes up very little desk space.

CHUWI also includes a VESA mounting panel, letting you attach the mini PC behind a monitor or under a desk. That makes it useful for small workspaces, offices, home setups, and anyone who wants a clean desk.

The cooling layout is simple. Air enters through side vents, and hot air exits from the back. That works well for performance, but fan noise becomes noticeable when the CPU is pushed. During heavier testing, the fan was loud close to the rear exhaust, although it became more manageable from a normal sitting distance.

Ports are plentiful, but USB C is limited

The AuBox X has a strong port selection for such a small PC, but it leans heavily on USB A. The front includes one USB4 port, two USB A ports, a headphone jack, and the power button. The back includes two HDMI ports, DisplayPort 1.4, 2.5Gb Ethernet, more USB A ports, and a USB C power input.

The system can run three external displays, which is useful for productivity setups. However, the limited number of USB C ports may bother people with newer accessories, docks, or external drives.

Performance is strong for work and local AI tasks

The Core Ultra 7 256V performs well in general Windows use, productivity apps, multitasking, and benchmarks. The fast SSD also helps the system feel responsive when opening apps, moving files, and loading projects.

The integrated Arc 140V graphics can handle lighter games and basic GPU tasks, but this is not a mini PC to buy mainly for gaming. It can run some lighter titles, but demanding modern games will be better suited to a desktop with dedicated graphics.

The AuBox X is also marketed as an AI PC, and its 47 TOPS NPU makes it ready for local AI workloads and Copilot Plus PC features. The limitation is memory. Since the 16GB RAM is integrated and cannot be upgraded, buyers who plan to run heavier AI models or demanding creative workloads should think carefully before choosing this machine.

Storage can be upgraded, but memory cannot

Opening the bottom panel reveals two M.2 SSD slots and a Wi Fi card slot. That gives the AuBox X good storage flexibility, since you can add or replace SSDs after purchase.

RAM is the opposite story. The memory is integrated with the processor and cannot be changed. That is common with Intel’s Lunar Lake style chips, but it still limits the long term flexibility of the device.

This makes the AuBox X better for people who know 16GB is enough for their work. If you regularly use heavy editing software, large AI models, virtual machines, or memory hungry development tools, a mini PC with 32GB or more may be a safer choice.

The CHUWI AuBox X is a good mini PC if 16GB RAM is enough

The CHUWI AuBox X 256V is a strong option for anyone who wants a compact Windows PC with modern performance, local AI support, fast storage, and triple display output. It is small, well built, and competitively priced compared with more expensive AI capable mini PCs.

Its weaknesses are easy to understand. The fan can get loud, USB C support is thinner than it should be, and the 16GB RAM limit will not suit everyone. But for everyday work, browsing, office tasks, media, light creative use, and AI features, it delivers a lot in a very small box.

For buyers who want more upgradeability or serious gaming power, a traditional desktop still makes more sense. For people who want a tiny, capable, modern mini PC at a reasonable price, the AuBox X is worth considering.
