Capcom Reportedly Has No Strong Interest In A Resident Evil 5 Remake Right Now

Capcom may eventually remake Resident Evil 5, but it reportedly is not a priority inside the company right now. According to comments attributed to well known insider Dusk Golem, fan demand could push the project forward someday, but Capcom’s teams currently appear more interested in other Resident Evil projects.

The report comes as Capcom continues to revisit older Resident Evil games through modern remakes built with its RE Engine. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 have already received major remakes, while Resident Evil: Veronica is set to arrive next year. Resident Evil Zero and the original Resident Evil are also reportedly part of the remake discussion.

That leaves Resident Evil 5 as one of the biggest remaining entries without a modern remake. But the situation is more complicated than simply moving through the series in order.

Why Resident Evil 5 may take longer to remake

Resident Evil 5 is still popular, but it is also one of the harder games in the series to remake. It moved heavily into action, focused on co op gameplay, and had a tone that was very different from the survival horror roots of the franchise.

A remake would likely need more than updated visuals. Capcom would have to rethink parts of the story, pacing, setting, combat, and co op structure to make it fit the modern direction of the series.

Resident Evil 5 also carries more controversy around its setting and presentation than many other entries. A modern remake would need careful handling, not just technical improvement.

Fan demand has shaped Capcom’s remake choices before

The report suggests that Capcom does not simply remake every Resident Evil game automatically. Internal interest matters, but fan demand also plays a role.

Dusk Golem claimed that fan feedback helped push Resident Evil: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero into remake consideration. Code Veronica reportedly had the strongest demand in one past survey, while Zero followed behind it.

That helps explain why Resident Evil 5 may still happen eventually. It remains a major entry with a large audience, and many fans will likely keep asking for it once Capcom finishes other classic remakes.

Still, demand alone may not be enough if the development teams would rather work on different Resident Evil titles first.

Capcom may be more interested in Revelations

One interesting detail from the report is that Capcom may have more internal interest in remaking Resident Evil Revelations than Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6.

That makes some sense. Revelations is closer to the horror side of the franchise and may be easier to reshape into a modern RE Engine project. It also has strong connections to fan favorite characters and could benefit from a bigger visual and gameplay update.

Resident Evil 5, by comparison, would be a larger and riskier project. It would need to satisfy fans of the original while also fitting the darker and more grounded style Capcom has used in recent remakes.

Resident Evil 6 is an even harder case

If Resident Evil 5 is difficult to remake, Resident Evil 6 is probably even more challenging. The sixth main entry pushed the series further into large scale action and split its campaign across multiple characters and styles.

The game received a mixed response when it launched, and its direction is often seen as one reason Capcom later reset the series with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. That makes a Resident Evil 6 remake less obvious, unless Capcom wants to completely rebuild it from the ground up.

Resident Evil 5 has aged better for many players because its co op design is still fun, but it would still require major changes to work as a modern horror focused remake.

A Resident Evil 5 remake feels likely, but not soon

Capcom has built a successful remake strategy, so it is hard to imagine Resident Evil 5 being ignored forever. The game is too recognizable, too commercially important, and too frequently discussed by fans.

But the report suggests players should not expect it soon. Capcom may first focus on Resident Evil: Veronica, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 1, or even Revelations before returning to Chris and Sheva’s story.

For now, Resident Evil 5 sits in an uncertain place. It is popular enough to make a remake likely someday, but complicated enough that Capcom may want to wait until it has the right creative reason to revisit it.
