ASUS is preparing to launch what it describes as the first 24.5 inch OLED gaming monitor built for esports, bringing a smaller screen size and a 540Hz refresh rate to the OLED market. The ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace is expected to use an LG Tandem WOLED panel, rather than the BOE panel that earlier reports had suggested.
The monitor uses a 1920 x 1080 resolution, which may sound modest beside the growing number of 1440p and 4K OLED displays. However, 1080p remains useful for competitive gaming because it allows powerful PCs to reach extremely high frame rates more easily. That is especially important for players focused on fast shooters and esports titles where motion clarity and responsiveness can matter more than pixel density.
ASUS says the display can reach a 540Hz refresh rate and offers a claimed 0.02ms response time. Those figures place it among the fastest OLED monitors announced so far, while the smaller 24.5 inch format may appeal to players who prefer a more compact screen for competitive play.
LG Tandem WOLED Technology Moves Into Smaller Gaming Displays
Most OLED gaming monitors currently start at around 27 inches, particularly in the premium 1440p and 4K segment. Smaller OLED models have been rare, leaving competitive players to choose between larger displays or traditional LCD esports monitors.
The ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace could change that by bringing OLED image quality to a size more familiar to esports players. A 24.5 inch screen is common in professional gaming setups because it keeps more of the display within your natural field of view.
LG’s Tandem WOLED panel technology is expected to improve brightness and durability compared with older OLED panel designs. Tandem OLED uses multiple organic layers to help increase light output and reduce wear over time. That could be useful for a monitor designed to run at high refresh rates for long gaming sessions.

A 540Hz OLED Monitor Will Need Very High Frame Rates
A 540Hz display can only show its full advantage when the game is running at very high frame rates. That is realistic in less demanding competitive games, but many modern AAA titles will not reach 540 frames per second even with powerful graphics hardware.
Games such as Valorant, Counter Strike, Overwatch, Rocket League, and similar esports titles are the most likely to benefit. Players will also need a capable CPU, high performance graphics card, and settings tuned for maximum frame rates.

For general gaming, a 1440p OLED monitor may still be the better option because it provides sharper visuals and more screen space. The ASUS monitor is aimed at a specific audience that values speed, low latency, and OLED contrast in a smaller format.
ASUS has not yet confirmed the monitor’s price or release date. Those details will matter because high refresh rate OLED panels are still expensive, especially when they use newer panel technology. Still, the XG259QWPG Ace shows that the OLED market is beginning to expand beyond large high resolution displays and into the competitive gaming space.
