Asus has released a special 20th anniversary version of its ROG Azoth Extreme mechanical keyboard, giving one of its best gaming keyboards a bold black and gold redesign. The new ROG Azoth Extreme Edition 20 keeps the premium 75 percent layout of the original model, but adds anniversary styling, transparent keycaps, gold accents, custom switches, and a very high $599.99 price.
This is clearly not a keyboard for casual buyers. It is aimed at ROG fans, mechanical keyboard enthusiasts, and players who want a prebuilt board that already feels premium without needing heavy modification. Asus has treated this model as a collector style release, and that shows in almost every part of the design.
The regular Azoth Extreme already had a high end aluminum build, but the Edition 20 version leans harder into presentation. The keyboard uses a black aluminum alloy chassis with gold accents around the edges, ports, control knob, wrist rest baseplate, and magnetic feet. Asus also includes a 24K plated gold nameplate that attaches to the bottom of the keyboard.
The transparent keycaps are another major visual change. Instead of using fully black caps, Asus has added transparent sides with black tops, allowing the RGB lighting to shine through in a crystal like effect. The look matches the anniversary theme well, although there is one practical drawback: the lettering can be hard to read in some lighting conditions.

The typing feel appears to be one of the strongest parts of the keyboard. The review unit used ROG NX Snow Edition 20 switches, which were praised for their full and satisfying sound. Asus also offers ROG NX Storm switches for people who prefer a sharper and more clacky feel. Both switch options come pre lubed, and the keyboard is hot swappable, so you can replace switches later if you want a different feel.
Asus has also built the keyboard with several sound dampening layers, including PORON foam, a switch pad, and a silicone pad. These layers help reduce unwanted pinging and make the board feel more comfortable for long typing sessions. The adjustable gasket is another useful touch, letting you switch between a softer typing feel for work and a harder feel for gaming.

The small OLED screen and control knob add more flexibility. The display can show connection status, battery level, profile information, Caps Lock, and other quick details. The knob can control volume, brightness, RGB settings, music, and custom commands. Through Armoury Crate, you can also customize almost every key, set macros, and sync lighting with Aura Sync.
Battery life is another strength. Asus claims more than 1,600 hours of use over 2.4GHz wireless when lighting is turned off. With RGB and the OLED display active, real world use is much shorter, but still expected to last around four days of regular use.
The included polling rate booster is aimed at competitive players. By default, the keyboard supports a 1,000Hz polling rate, but the booster can raise that to 8,000Hz. Most people may not notice the difference, but it gives serious players another performance option.
The biggest problem is obvious: the price. At $599.99, this keyboard costs more than many graphics cards, monitors, or full budget PC upgrades. Even compared with the standard Azoth Extreme, the anniversary model costs $100 more. That makes it hard to recommend unless you specifically want the ROG anniversary design and premium extras.
Still, the Azoth Extreme Edition 20 is not trying to be practical. It is a luxury keyboard made for people who already know they want something special. It sounds excellent, feels premium, includes strong gaming features, and looks different from the usual black gaming keyboard. For most buyers, the price will be too high. For dedicated ROG fans, that may be exactly the point.
