Assassin's Creed Valhalla Finally Gets New Game+ Mode With Mithril Upgrades and Higher Gear Levels

Ubisoft has released a major update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, introducing the long requested New Game+ mode nearly six years after the game's original launch in 2020.

Title update 1.8.0 allows players to restart Eivor's adventure while retaining their existing equipment and abilities. The update also introduces Mithril, a new upgrade material, alongside expanded gear progression, inventory management improvements and additional achievements.

The update became available on November 5, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and Series S.

Ubisoft has also introduced visual improvements for PlayStation 5 Pro and removed a previous restriction that prevented base game players from accessing Divine quality equipment.

New Game+ Becomes Available After Completing the Holy Day Quest

Players can unlock New Game+ after completing the Holy Day quest in the Hamtunscire region.

Importantly, completing the game's true ending is not necessary to access the mode. Ubisoft chose this requirement to make New Game+ available earlier, considering the length of Valhalla's main campaign.

Once unlocked, New Game+ allows players to begin another playthrough while keeping their previously acquired skills and gear.

The mode also supports multiple playthroughs, with difficulty increasing each time players restart the adventure.

This provides an additional challenge for those who have already completed the campaign and developed their characters.

Mithril Raises Divine Gear Upgrade Limit to Level 27

Another major addition is Mithril, a new resource used to obtain advanced equipment upgrades and improve runes.

Ubisoft has increased the maximum upgrade level for Divine quality gear from 13 to 27, allowing players to strengthen their equipment further during subsequent playthroughs.

Divine quality gear is also now available to players who own only the base game.

Previously, access to this equipment tier required the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion.

The update introduces several other changes.

FeatureWhat's new
New Game+Replay the campaign with existing gear and skills
MithrilNew resource for advanced upgrades
Divine gearMaximum upgrade level increased to 27
Equipment accessDivine gear no longer requires Dawn of Ragnarok

The new Stash system provides a dedicated location in Ravensthorpe for storing equipment and runes, helping players manage increasingly large inventories.

Alongside these additions, Ubisoft has included balance adjustments and bug fixes.

The introduction of New Game+ gives returning players a reason to revisit Assassin's Creed Valhalla with their existing character progression while exploring the expanded equipment upgrade system.
