AOC’s budget dual mode monitor switches between 4K clarity and 310Hz speed

AOC has launched a new 27 inch dual mode monitor in China that gives buyers two very different display options in one screen. The AOC U27V6RL/WW can run at 4K resolution for sharper image quality or switch down to 1080p for a much higher refresh rate, making it a flexible option for people who want one monitor for both work and fast gaming.

By default, the monitor runs at 3840 by 2160 at 75Hz. Over DisplayPort and USB C, that rises slightly to 80Hz. The second mode drops the resolution to 1920 by 1080 but increases the refresh rate to 240Hz over HDMI or up to 310Hz over DisplayPort and USB C.

That split is unusual. Many dual mode monitors focus on premium gaming specs, such as 4K at very high refresh rates and 1080p at even faster speeds. AOC’s version is more affordable, with a listed China price equal to around $265. That makes it much cheaper than most 27 inch 4K high refresh gaming monitors, although the 4K mode is limited to a modest 75Hz or 80Hz.

The monitor is more useful for mixed work and gaming than pure 4K esports

The AOC U27V6RL/WW looks best suited for buyers who want one monitor to cover different needs. The 4K mode should be useful for productivity, sharp text, media, editing, browsing, and console style single player games. The 1080p 310Hz mode is more useful for competitive shooters and esports titles where motion smoothness matters more than resolution.

The color specs are also stronger than the price might suggest. AOC lists 100 percent sRGB coverage, 96 percent DCI P3, 94 percent Adobe RGB, 10.7 billion colors, and factory calibration with Delta E below 2. That gives the monitor some appeal beyond gaming, especially for people who want decent color accuracy for everyday creative work.

The port selection is practical too. The monitor includes HDMI 2.1 TMDS, DisplayPort 1.4, USB C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90W power delivery, two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, and audio output. The stand supports tilt, pivot, height adjustment, and swivel, while VESA 100 by 100 mounting is also supported.

The main limitation is obvious. This is not a true 4K high refresh monitor in the way many gaming buyers now expect. At 4K, it tops out at 80Hz. That is fine for desktop use and some gaming, but it will not satisfy players looking for 4K 144Hz, 4K 240Hz, or 4K 360Hz performance.

Still, the price changes the conversation. At around $265, AOC is not trying to compete directly with premium OLED or Mini LED gaming displays. It is offering a cheaper way to get 4K sharpness and a high refresh 1080p mode in the same monitor.

For students, budget PC gamers, or people who use one screen for both work and esports titles, the U27V6RL/WW could make sense. You get a sharp 4K desktop when you need clarity, then a much faster 1080p mode when you want smoother competitive gameplay.

AOC has not confirmed a global launch yet, so for now the monitor appears limited to China. If it reaches more markets at a similar price, it could become one of the more interesting budget dual mode displays of 2026.
