AMD has confirmed a problem with its latest Radeon Adrenalin 26.6.2 graphics driver on Windows 10 and is advising affected users to return to the older 26.6.1 release while engineers investigate.
The issue can stop AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition from opening and may show a yellow warning icon next to the graphics device in Device Manager. Reports indicate the bug is mainly affecting Windows 10 PCs, while Windows 11 systems do not appear to be seeing the same problem.
The timing is frustrating for Radeon RX 7000 owners because Adrenalin 26.6.2 added support for AMD FSR 4.1 on RDNA 3 graphics cards. Rolling back to 26.6.1 removes access to that new upscaling feature until AMD delivers a corrected driver.
The Bug Appears to Be Limited Mostly to Windows 10
AMD has acknowledged that Adrenalin 26.6.2 can trigger a compatibility warning between the Radeon software package and the installed graphics driver on some Windows 10 systems.
When this happens, the Radeon control software may fail to launch properly. Some affected users have also reported a yellow warning symbol in Device Manager, suggesting Windows is not loading the graphics driver correctly.
The issue does not appear to affect every Radeon user, but enough reports have surfaced for AMD to investigate and publish a temporary workaround.
| Driver version | Status for affected Windows 10 users |
|---|---|
| Adrenalin 26.6.2 | May trigger software compatibility warning |
| Adrenalin 26.6.1 | AMD’s temporary rollback recommendation |
| Windows 11 systems | No widespread reports of the same issue |
| Radeon RX 7000 cards | Lose FSR 4.1 support after rollback |
AMD has not yet confirmed the exact cause of the bug or given a date for a replacement driver.
AMD Recommends Returning to Adrenalin 26.6.1
For now, AMD says users affected by the problem should roll back to Adrenalin Edition 26.6.1.
The rollback is a temporary solution rather than a permanent fix. It should restore access to the Radeon software and remove the driver compatibility error, but it also means giving up the newer features included in 26.6.2.
This is especially important for Radeon RX 7000 owners. Adrenalin 26.6.2 introduced FSR 4.1 support for RDNA 3 hardware, allowing compatible games to use AMD’s newer upscaling model.
The older 26.6.1 driver does not include that support, so affected Windows 10 users will need to wait for AMD’s corrected release before using FSR 4.1 through the official driver.
How to Roll Back an AMD Driver in Windows 10
The easiest option is to download and install Adrenalin 26.6.1 from AMD’s official support page.
Before installing the older driver, it is best to remove the affected version through Windows Settings or Device Manager. A clean installation can help avoid conflicts between old driver files and the newer release.
A simple rollback process looks like this:
- Open Settings and go to Apps.
- Find AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Uninstall the current Radeon software package.
- Restart the PC.
- Install Adrenalin 26.6.1.
- Restart again after installation is complete.
Some users may prefer AMD Cleanup Utility or Display Driver Uninstaller for a full driver removal, but that is usually not necessary unless the regular rollback fails.
RX 9000 Owners Have Reported a Few Similar Problems
Most reports point to Windows 10 as the main source of the issue, but there have also been a small number of complaints from Radeon RX 9000 owners.

Those reports are less common, so it is unclear whether they are caused by the same driver problem or a separate installation issue. AMD has not yet confirmed that RX 9000 hardware is broadly affected.
Anyone running Adrenalin 26.6.2 without errors does not need to remove the driver immediately. The rollback is mainly for people who cannot open AMD Software, see the compatibility warning, or notice the yellow warning symbol in Device Manager.
AMD Needs a Fast Fix for Windows 10 Radeon Users
Adrenalin 26.6.2 was an important release because it expanded FSR 4.1 to older RDNA 3 graphics cards. That makes the Windows 10 issue more inconvenient than a typical control panel bug.
AMD is working on a fix, and the company will likely release either a revised 26.6.2 package or a newer driver once the problem is resolved. Until then, affected Windows 10 users should use Adrenalin 26.6.1 to keep their Radeon software working properly.
