AMD may be preparing another AM5 gaming CPU with 3D V Cache, and this one could be aimed at buyers who want strong gaming performance without paying for the newest Ryzen 9000X3D chips. A new leak claims the company is working on a Ryzen 7 7700X3D, an 8 core Zen 4 processor with the same full 96MB of L3 cache found on other popular X3D gaming chips.
The leak comes from chi11eddog, a known hardware leaker on X. AMD has not announced the chip yet, so the details should be treated as unofficial for now. Still, the reported specs make the Ryzen 7 7700X3D sound like a possible lower cost alternative to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
The chip is said to feature 8 cores and 16 threads, along with 96MB of L3 cache. That cache size is important because AMD’s 3D V Cache chips are popular with gamers mainly due to the extra cache helping performance in many CPU sensitive games.
The main difference appears to be clock speed. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is reportedly set to run at a 4GHz base clock and up to a 4.5GHz boost clock. That is lower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has a 4.2GHz base clock and up to a 5GHz boost clock.
| CPU | Cores and threads | L3 cache | Base clock | Boost clock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 8 cores, 16 threads | 96MB | 4.2GHz | Up to 5GHz |
| Ryzen 7 7700X3D | 8 cores, 16 threads | 96MB | 4GHz | Up to 4.5GHz |
| Ryzen 5 7600X3D | 6 cores, 12 threads | 96MB | Not listed here | Not listed here |
| Ryzen 5 7500X3D | 6 cores, 12 threads | 96MB | Not listed here | Not listed here |
If the leak is accurate, pricing will decide whether this chip makes sense. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still one of the best gaming CPUs on AM5, and it can often be found around the mid $300 range. The Ryzen 5 7600X3D has also been available much cheaper. That means the 7700X3D would likely need to land around $299 or below to stand out.

The rumored chip could be useful for PC builders who want an 8 core X3D processor but do not want to spend extra on newer Zen 5 models. It could also help AMD fill a gap between its 6 core X3D chips and the more expensive Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
| Ryzen 7000X3D model | Current position |
|---|---|
| Ryzen 9 7950X3D | High end 16 core option |
| Ryzen 9 7900X3D | 12 core option |
| Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Popular 8 core gaming chip |
| Ryzen 7 7700X3D | Rumored cheaper 8 core option |
| Ryzen 5 7600X3D | Lower cost 6 core option |
| Ryzen 5 7500X3D | Another 6 core X3D option |
The lower boost clock may reduce performance compared with the 7800X3D, especially in games or tasks that still benefit from frequency. However, the full 96MB L3 cache should help it remain competitive in many gaming workloads.
This also shows AMD continuing to extend the life of AM5 with more choices at different price points. Even though Ryzen 9000X3D chips are now available, Zen 4 X3D parts still offer strong gaming value, especially when paired with the right price.
For now, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D remains a leak, not an official product. But if AMD launches it at the right price, it could become one of the more interesting budget friendly AM5 gaming CPUs for 2026.
