Alienware 15 brings the brand into cheaper gaming laptop territory

Alienware is trying something different with its new Alienware 15 gaming laptop.

The company is usually associated with expensive gaming hardware, but this new 15 inch model starts at $1,299. That makes it a more affordable entry point than Dell’s Alienware 16 Aurora, which starts at $1,639.99 before discounts.

The Alienware 15 is available now from Dell with either AMD or Intel processors. AMD models start at $1,299, while Intel models start at $1,349. Dell is also expected to bring cheaper configurations later.

Alienware 15 Intel$1,349
Alienware 16 Aurora$1,639.99

This is part of a broader shift for Alienware. The company recently launched a more affordable QD OLED gaming monitor, the AW2726DM, at $349. Now it is trying the same kind of value push with gaming laptops.

The Alienware 15 comes with AMD Ryzen 5 220 or Ryzen 7 260 options, or Intel Core 5 210H and Core 7 240H options. For graphics, it supports NVIDIA RTX 4050, RTX 5050, and RTX 5060 laptop GPUs. The RTX 5060 tops out at 80W.

The Alienware 16 Aurora has a little more room to scale. It offers Core 5 210H, Core 7 240H, and Core 9 270H chips, plus GPU options up to an RTX 5070 at 115W.

The display may be the biggest weakness of the cheaper model. The Alienware 15 uses a 15.3 inch 1920 x 1200 screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync, 300 nits brightness, and only 62.5 percent sRGB coverage.

That is fine for gaming, but not ideal for creators or anyone who cares about accurate colors. The Alienware 16 Aurora gets a sharper 16 inch 2560 x 1600 display with 120Hz refresh rate and 100 percent sRGB coverage.

The chassis is also different. The Alienware 15 skips the rear thermal shelf found on some other Alienware laptops. Its lid and base are made from polycarbonate, while the Aurora 16 uses aluminum for the lid.

Battery options are smaller too. The Alienware 15 offers 54Wh or 70Wh batteries, while the Aurora 16 goes up to 96Wh. The Aurora also has newer wireless support with Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, compared with Wi Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 on the Alienware 15.

So the choice is fairly clear. The Alienware 15 makes more sense if you want the Alienware design and performance hardware at the lowest possible price, especially if you plan to use an external monitor. The weaker built in display matters less in that setup.

The Alienware 16 Aurora is the better choice if you want a sharper screen, better color coverage, bigger battery options, stronger GPU choices, and a slightly more premium build.

The new Alienware 15 is not trying to be the best Alienware laptop. It is trying to be the most accessible one. If Dell discounts it regularly, it could become a strong option for buyers who want a recognizable gaming laptop without jumping into the more expensive Aurora or Area 51 lines.
