AIMP 5.40 Build 2722 is now available with updated language files, a newer WavPack codec, improved Last.fm handling, and a long list of fixes for playback, audio conversion, plug-ins, and Windows interface behaviour. The update is mainly focused on stability and compatibility rather than adding major new features.
AIMP remains one of the more feature-rich free music players available for Windows. It supports a wide range of audio formats, internet radio, playlists, tag editing, audio conversion, recording tools, cloud storage access, podcasts, and plug-ins. The software is also known for its lightweight design and extensive interface customization.
Build 2722 should be a worthwhile update for regular AIMP users, especially those using VST plug-ins, CUE sheets, audio conversion tools, or online scrobbling services.
WavPack Codec and Localization Updates Arrive in Build 2722
The new version updates the WavPack codec to version 5.9, improving support for one of the lossless audio formats handled by AIMP.
AIMP has also refreshed its localizations, which should improve translations and interface text across supported languages.
The Last.fm scrobbler plug-in has received a useful change as well. When access is denied, the Track Info window can now show links to the web version of the relevant music catalog entry. This may make it easier to check artist and track details when account access or matching issues occur.
| Updated area | Change in AIMP 5.40 Build 2722 |
|---|---|
| WavPack support | Updated to version 5.9 |
| Localizations | Language files refreshed |
| Last.fm scrobbler | Adds catalog links after access denied errors |
| URL handling | Improves port number detection |
| Playlist playback | Fixes next-track behaviour in repeat mode |
| CUE support | Improves disc number reading from custom tags |
Audio Engine and Plug-In Fixes Improve Reliability
Several fixes target AIMP’s playback engine and plug-in support. One of the more important changes addresses an issue where changing sample rates could cause some VST plug-ins to hang.

That matters for listeners who use third-party effects, audio processing tools, or custom plug-ins to shape their music playback. AIMP supports a broad selection of extensions, but plug-in compatibility can be affected by sample-rate changes and audio device settings.
The update also fixes playback issues with certain AAC files that did not always play to the end. Other plug-in fixes improve MusicBrainz artist data extraction for some CD releases.
| Area | Fix |
|---|---|
| VST plug-ins | Prevents certain plug-ins from hanging after sample-rate changes |
| AAC playback | Fixes some files stopping before the end |
| MusicBrainz support | Corrects artist name extraction for specific releases |
| CD playback | Improves metadata handling |
| Crash reports | Includes fixes based on incoming reports |
Audio Converter and File Handling Issues Are Addressed
AIMP 5.40 Build 2722 also improves the audio converter. The update fixes an issue where listening statistics were not counted correctly when source files were deleted after conversion and the output folder matched the original folder.
Another fix ensures dithering switches off correctly when processing audio from 24-bit to 24-bit format. Dithering can be useful when reducing bit depth, but it should not be applied unnecessarily when the bit depth remains unchanged.
The software also fixes a file creation problem involving folders created from templates when a folder name ended with a period.
Interface Fixes Improve Everyday Use
The update includes a few smaller interface changes that may still matter for daily use. AIMP now fixes an issue where menus could not be scrolled with the mouse wheel when Windows had inactive-window scrolling disabled.
It also corrects a problem with the next-track command when the following file was missing while repeat mode was enabled.
AIMP remains a strong option for Windows users who want a traditional desktop music player with modern format support and deep customization. Build 2722 does not change the player’s overall direction, but it makes playback, plug-ins, conversion tools, and everyday navigation more dependable.
