Acer is taking a different approach to handheld gaming with the Nitro Blaze Link, a compact device designed primarily to stream PC games over a local network rather than run them natively.
The handheld uses Linux and relies on Sunshine and Moonlight for game streaming. Instead of packing a powerful processor, large amount of memory and substantial internal storage, Acer has kept the hardware simple because the actual game runs on a separate gaming PC.
That approach puts the Nitro Blaze Link closer to devices such as the Logitech G Cloud or PlayStation Portal than to the Steam Deck and other native gaming handhelds.

Streaming design explains the limited hardware
The most unusual specification is the 1GB of LPDDR4 memory.
For a modern Windows gaming handheld, that amount would be completely inadequate. The Nitro Blaze Link does not need to render PC games locally, however. Its job is mainly to receive a video stream from another system and send controller inputs back over the network.
The device also includes only 8GB of eMMC storage and does not use a Ryzen APU or other high performance PC processor.
This should help Acer reduce the cost compared with native handhelds, which have become considerably more expensive as memory and storage prices have increased.
Acer has not announced a final price, but the hardware configuration suggests the company intends to position it well below devices such as the Steam Deck, Legion Go or higher end Windows handhelds.
WiFi 6 will be important for latency
Since the Nitro Blaze Link depends on streaming, wireless performance will matter more than raw processing power.
The handheld supports WiFi 6 with 80MHz channels. Technologies including OFDMA can allow multiple connected devices to share network resources more efficiently, which may help in busy home networks.
That does not eliminate latency entirely.
If several devices are heavily using the same wireless network, game streaming quality and responsiveness could still suffer. A strong router and stable local network will therefore be important for getting the best experience.
Acer appears to be focusing on its own gaming PCs
The Nitro Blaze Link uses standard controls including ABXY buttons, a directional pad, dual analog sticks, triggers and bumpers. It also includes Start, Back and Home buttons, along with a dedicated overlay control.
One limitation is compatibility.
Acer says the Linux operating system has broad hardware support, but the Nitro Blaze Link has been designed specifically around the company's Predator and Nitro gaming laptops. Acer is not currently guaranteeing compatibility with PCs outside its own ecosystem.

Xbox Cloud Gaming support is also uncertain at launch because of the Linux based software environment.
That could make the device less flexible than some competing streaming handhelds, depending on how much compatibility improves after release.
Acer plans to launch the Nitro Blaze Link in North America during the fourth quarter of 2026. Pricing has not yet been confirmed.
For players who already own a powerful gaming PC and mainly want a lightweight device for playing around the house, the Nitro Blaze Link could offer a cheaper alternative to buying another full gaming handheld.
