The Blood of Dawnwalker Targets 40 FPS on PS5 Pro as PC Remains the Only 60 FPS Option

The Blood of Dawnwalker will offer its strongest console presentation on PlayStation 5 Pro, but even Sony’s more powerful console will top out at 40 FPS.

New console footage has confirmed the display modes for PlayStation 5 Pro, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. All three systems will offer Quality and Balanced modes, while PC will remain the only platform capable of reaching 60 FPS.

The game is also coming to Xbox Series S, but no footage of that version has been shown yet.

PS5 Pro gets the sharpest console image

PlayStation 5 Pro will offer two display modes.

Quality mode uses dynamic 4K and targets 30 FPS.

Balanced mode also uses dynamic 4K but targets 40 FPS.

The PS5 Pro footage appears noticeably sharper than the base console version, especially in Quality mode.

That suggests the stronger GPU is allowing the dynamic resolution system to stay closer to native 4K more often.

Base PS5 uses the same modes with more aggressive scaling

The standard PlayStation 5 will offer the same two performance targets.

However, image quality appears softer.

The dynamic resolution system seems to reduce resolution more aggressively to maintain the 30 FPS and 40 FPS targets.

The overall mode structure is therefore the same, but the PS5 Pro should provide cleaner image quality.

Xbox Series X looks very similar to PS5

Xbox Series X also offers the same Quality and Balanced modes.

Early footage suggests the difference between Xbox Series X and standard PS5 is relatively small.

Both systems appear to rely heavily on dynamic resolution scaling to maintain their frame rate targets.

That means your experience on either base console should be broadly similar.

Xbox Series S remains the biggest unknown

The Xbox Series S version has not yet been shown.

That stands out because it is the least powerful console supported by the game.

Without footage, it is not yet clear whether Series S will use the same mode structure, a lower resolution target, a single graphics mode, or a reduced frame rate.

More information will be needed before its performance can be judged properly.

Why 60 FPS is limited to PC

The Blood of Dawnwalker is built with Unreal Engine 5, which can be demanding on current console hardware.

Rebel Wolves is also a smaller studio compared with some larger teams that have more resources for deep platform specific optimization.

The game's PC requirements also suggest that it is designed around relatively demanding hardware.

Those factors help explain why the console versions are capped at 40 FPS rather than offering a full 60 FPS performance mode.

For players who want the highest possible frame rate, PC will be the preferred platform.

40 FPS could still be a useful compromise

Although 40 FPS is below the 60 FPS target many players prefer, it can still provide a noticeably smoother experience than 30 FPS when used with a compatible display.

It also allows the game to preserve more image quality than a full 60 FPS mode would likely permit on current consoles.

On PS5 Pro in particular, Balanced mode could become the best compromise between responsiveness and visual sharpness.

The main limitation is that the footage shown so far has focused more heavily on Quality mode, so the final image quality of Balanced mode remains less clear.

For now, PlayStation 5 Pro appears set to deliver the best console version of The Blood of Dawnwalker, with sharper dynamic 4K output and a 40 FPS option.

If you want 60 FPS, however, PC will remain the only confirmed choice.
