Take Two has confirmed that the current version of GTA Online will continue to receive support after Grand Theft Auto 6 launches, while a separate comment from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy suggests GTA 6 multiplayer could arrive in 2027.

Take Two described that release as a single player title and said GTA Online will remain active beyond GTA 6's launch.
That creates the possibility that the existing GTA 5 based online service and a future GTA 6 multiplayer experience could operate alongside each other for some time.
GTA Online will not disappear when GTA 6 launches
During Take Two's annual shareholder meeting, the company said GTA Online would continue to be supported after Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives.
That is significant because GTA Online remains one of the company's most successful long running products.

Keeping the existing online game running could make sense for several reasons.
GTA Online has an established player base, years of accumulated content and a mature in game economy.
Players may also have large amounts of progress tied to characters, businesses, vehicles and other purchases.
Moving everyone immediately to a new multiplayer platform could therefore be difficult even if GTA 6 eventually receives its own online mode.
Twitch CEO points to a 2027 multiplayer launch
The more surprising development came from Dan Clancy, who discussed Twitch's conversations with Rockstar about GTA 6.
He said the platform expects a major increase in attention when GTA 6 launches, followed by an even larger increase the following year when multiplayer arrives.
That statement points toward a 2027 launch window for GTA 6 multiplayer.
Rockstar and Take Two have not publicly announced such a date, so Clancy's comment should not be treated as a formal confirmation.
However, it is more notable than an ordinary rumor because Twitch has apparently been discussing creator engagement directly with Rockstar.
A multiplayer mode would naturally have major implications for livestreaming, especially considering the popularity of GTA roleplaying communities.
Both online versions could coexist
The combination of Take Two's statement and the Twitch comment suggests Rockstar may not immediately replace the existing GTA Online service.
Instead, the company could support both products separately.
That would give current GTA Online players more time to decide whether to move to the newer multiplayer experience.
It could also reduce pressure on Rockstar to transfer every feature, economy system and piece of existing content into GTA 6 multiplayer on day one.
Whether progress, characters or purchases will carry between the two games remains unknown.
Pricing is another unanswered question.
Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 multiplayer would be included with the base game, sold separately or eventually offered through another model.
A PC version alongside multiplayer remains speculation
