Samsung's 49-inch Odyssey G9 (G95C) and its Odyssey OLED G9 (G91SD) both cost $899.99 on Amazon at the time of writing. That turns two different panel technologies into one straight choice, with no price gap to settle it.
Each listing shows a list price of $1,299.99 and a 31 percent cut. Samsung's own US store sells both models at the same $899.99, so this is a matched price rather than an Amazon exclusive.
Both are 32:9 curved screens with a 5,120 x 1,440 Dual QHD resolution and a height-adjustable stand. The difference is what sits behind the glass: an LCD tuned for 240Hz and bright HDR, or a QD-OLED panel built for contrast.

Refresh rate or contrast: the core trade-off
The LCD model runs at up to 240Hz, while the OLED tops out at 144Hz. For fast competitive shooters, that is the clearest point in the LCD's favor.
The OLED answers with a static contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 against 2,500:1, according to Samsung. Its 0.03ms response time and 99 percent DCI color coverage also beat the LCD on paper.
HDR is less one-sided than it looks. The LCD carries VESA DisplayHDR 1000 and 450 nits typical brightness, and its Amazon listing cites 1,000-nit peak brightness. The OLED is certified for DisplayHDR True Black 400 at 250 nits typical, trading raw brightness for deeper blacks.
Both support HDR10+ and HDR10+ Gaming. Samsung's own OLED G9 spec page lists FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible support.
The LCD's sync tier is less clear. Samsung's G95C spec sheet lists it simply as "FreeSync", while the Amazon listing for the same model says "AMD FreeSync Premium Pro". The two descriptions disagree, so buyers who rely on the Premium Pro tier should confirm it before ordering.
Ports, curvature and stand differences
The LCD has two full-size HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4, plus a USB 3.0 hub. The OLED drops to one full-size HDMI 2.1 but adds a Micro HDMI 2.1 port and USB-C data connectivity.
Curvature differs too. The LCD's 1000R curve wraps tighter around the player, while the OLED's 1800R curve is gentler.
Both stands adjust by 120mm in height and accept 100 x 100 VESA mounts. The LCD lists tilt from -2 to 11 degrees and swivel of 15 degrees each way. The OLED tilts to 15 degrees, but Samsung does not publish a swivel range for it.

Burn-in and warranty terms
Burn-in is the usual worry with an OLED desktop monitor. Samsung's OLED G9 spec sheet states: "Burn-in at normal usage covered within warranty. (But, not covered for Commercial, abuse or mis-use)".
The Amazon listing for the OLED model says "3 Year Warranty". It also lists a Thermal Modulation System, Logo and Taskbar Detection, and a screen saver that dims the panel after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Samsung's own OLED spec page does not restate the overall warranty length, so the three-year figure rests on the Amazon listing. For the LCD, a Samsung representative replying to a review on its product page said the monitor carries a 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
Which 49-inch Odyssey G9 to buy at $899.99
The LCD suits players who want 240Hz, brighter HDR highlights and two full-size HDMI inputs for consoles. Readers weighing a different OLED ultrawide can compare it with LG's 45-inch 5K2K OLED deal.
The OLED suits darker games, films and color work, and it comes with written burn-in coverage and a longer listed warranty. Samsung's newer direction shows in its Odyssey G6 and OLED monitor announcements, while the 48.9-inch AOC SuperWide OLED targets the same size class.
