Marvel’s Blade Reportedly Nears Completion as Microsoft Considers Closing Arkane Lyon

Arkane Lyon, the studio developing Marvel’s Blade, is reportedly facing closure despite the game approaching the final stages of production.

According to a new report, Microsoft is seeking a buyer or development partner to support the French studio before consultations conclude on November 13, 2026.

The situation places approximately 217 jobs at risk and raises questions about whether Marvel’s Blade will reach its planned release window.

Although Microsoft has not officially canceled the game, its future remains uncertain while discussions about the studio's operations continue.

Arkane Lyon Faces November 13 Deadline as Microsoft Searches for Partner

Microsoft reportedly informed Arkane Lyon employees on July 16, 2026, about plans to close the studio.

The announcement followed a broader Xbox restructuring involving approximately 3,200 job cuts.

Under French employment regulations, Microsoft must complete consultations with the studio's Social and Economic Committee before proceeding with the proposed closure.

Those discussions are expected to conclude on November 13.

Internal documents reportedly indicate that operations could begin shutting down toward the end of 2026, with the process continuing into early 2027.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is exploring alternatives, including finding a partner capable of supporting development and commercialization.

However, no potential buyer or publishing partner has been publicly identified.

Marvel’s Blade Reportedly Approaching Final Development Stages

Marvel’s Blade was announced at The Game Awards in December 2023 and has remained largely absent from official presentations since then.

A union representative reportedly indicated that development is nearing completion.

The game was also reportedly delayed internally until late 2027, although Microsoft has not confirmed that release window.

Finding a partner could involve resolving development funding, publishing arrangements, and licensing agreements connected to the Marvel property.

These requirements could complicate efforts to preserve both the project and its development team.

Arkane Lyon’s Future Remains Uncertain

Arkane Lyon is known for developing Dishonored and Deathloop, two games recognized for their distinctive level design and player freedom.

Microsoft acquired the studio through its purchase of ZeniMax Media in 2021.

Arkane Austin, its American counterpart, was previously closed following the commercial difficulties surrounding Redfall.

Industry journalist Jason Schreier has suggested that several options are being explored to preserve Arkane Lyon, although negotiations remain uncertain.

For now, the November 13 consultation deadline represents an important milestone for the studio's employees and the future of Marvel’s Blade.
