Lenovo currently sells the SteamOS version of the Legion Go S, with a Ryzen Z2 Go, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, for $699.99 on its own site. That is $50 below the $749.99 that Best Buy charges for a new unit of the identical configuration.
It is also far below the roughly $989 retail figure that the listing's open-box discounts have been measured against. That higher number has been reported, but it does not appear anywhere on Lenovo's own product page.
The open-box units are still the cheapest way into this machine. The saving is simply much smaller than a $989 baseline implies.
Lenovo's own price undercuts the new unit at Best Buy
The machine is Lenovo SKU 83L30030US, listed by Lenovo as the Legion Go S with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor. Lenovo's page specifies 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 soldered memory, a 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 SSD and SteamOS, which matches the Best Buy listing exactly.
Lenovo shows a current selling price of $699.99 for that SKU, against a listed web price of $1,137.41. The lower figure is the one a buyer actually pays on Lenovo's site at the time of writing.
Measured against Lenovo's $699.99, the Open-Box Excellent unit at $569.99 saves $130. Measured against Best Buy's own $749.99 new price, the same unit saves $180.
Every price on the Best Buy listing, including the grade usually skipped
Best Buy's page for SKU 6619192 carries four condition tiers, not two. The middle Open-Box Good grade at $546.99 rarely gets quoted, and it sits only $23 above the cheapest option.

What Best Buy's open-box grades actually mean
Best Buy publishes a condition description for each grade on the listing itself. All three are described as fully functional and working like new.
- Excellent: looks like new and includes all parts and accessories.
- Good: may have minor scratches or dents, and may be missing non-essential parts and accessories.
- Fair: may have larger dents or scratches, may be missing non-essential parts, and is store pickup only.
Packaging may vary or be absent on all three grades. Best Buy also says a Geek Squad agent has confirmed the product works like new and has been restored to factory settings.
Best Buy's returns policy states that its standard 15-day window, or 60 days for My Best Buy Plus and Total members, applies to open-box stock as well as new. Buyers weighing the $130 gap against a new unit are mainly weighing the warranty behind it.
Valve's $789 Steam Deck and the refurbished option nobody counted
Valve's own hardware blog raised Steam Deck OLED pricing on May 27, 2026, citing rising memory and storage costs. The 512GB model is now $789 and the 1TB model is $949, a rise that has already made rival handhelds look stronger on price.
Every price on the Best Buy Legion Go S listing sits below $789, including the new unit. The same memory pressure is the backdrop to Valve's comments on its Steam Deck 2 timeline.
Valve also runs its own Certified Refurbished program, promoted on the Steam Deck store page as saving up to 20% with a one-year warranty. Valve publishes no fixed dollar price for it, so the closest direct comparison to an open-box Legion Go S cannot be priced from Valve's own page.
What the product pages still do not say
Best Buy states that all refurbished products include a warranty and that its length varies by condition, but the page does not itemize how long each grade is covered. The new unit's spec sheet lists one year of parts and one year of labor.
The two makers also disagree about the chip. Lenovo's page describes the Ryzen Z2 Go as built on Zen 3 architecture, while AMD's own spec sheet for the same processor lists Zen 3+, alongside four cores, eight threads and RDNA 2 graphics.
SteamOS is the draw here either way, and the platform keeps picking up fixes for AMD hardware. All prices and stock states above were checked on September 26, 2026, and open-box inventory in particular can move without notice.
