KyTyPS5 Emulator Boosts Demon's Souls to 10 to 18 FPS as Astro Bot Reaches Gameplay

PS5 emulation is progressing quickly, with the KyTyPS5 emulator now running Demon's Souls Remake at between 10 and 18 FPS after previously managing only around 2 FPS.

The same emulator has also reached gameplay in Astro Bot for the first time, although performance and graphics remain far from finished.

These results do not mean PS5 emulation is ready to replace a real console. They do show that compatibility and performance are improving much faster than they were only a short time ago.

Demon's Souls sees the largest performance jump

The most impressive improvement is in Demon's Souls Remake.

A previous KyTyPS5 build reportedly ran the game at roughly 2 FPS. A newer release now reaches between 10 and 18 FPS.

That is still well below normal playable performance, but the scale of the improvement is important for emulator development.

Demon's Souls Remake is also a useful test because it is a demanding PS5 title rather than a lightweight game.

If future updates continue improving CPU emulation, graphics translation and shader handling, the title could move closer to a usable state.

Astro Bot now reaches gameplay

Astro Bot has also crossed an important compatibility milestone.

The game can now boot into actual gameplay, reaching roughly 11 FPS on a system using an Intel Core i3 10105F and GeForce RTX 5060.

Graphics are still broken in several areas, so the experience is not remotely ready for normal play.

Even so, getting a modern first party PS5 game into gameplay shows that the emulator is handling more of the console's software environment than before.

KyTyPS5 now has several larger games running in some form, including GTA V, Astro Bot and Demon's Souls Remake, alongside smaller titles such as Stray.

KyTyPS5 may be overtaking other PS5 emulators

SharpEmu had previously attracted much of the attention around PS5 emulation, particularly after showing progress with Demon's Souls Remake.

KyTyPS5's recent updates may now put it ahead in some areas.

The emulator has moved through several major compatibility milestones in a short period, including getting more 3D games to boot and improving frame rates in demanding titles.

There has been speculation that some of the recent progress may involve AI generated code, but that has not been confirmed.

The latest development build also reportedly had not yet been uploaded publicly at the time of the report.

Sony's PC strategy makes the progress more noticeable

The timing is relevant because Sony has become more selective about bringing single player PlayStation titles to PC.

Earlier PlayStation releases such as God of War and Horizon eventually received native PC versions. More recent policy changes indicate that some future single player exclusives may remain tied to PlayStation hardware for longer, or potentially indefinitely.

That gives emulator development more importance for PC players interested in games without official ports.

However, there is still a major gap between running a PS5 game and replacing the console experience.

Current emulation often involves low frame rates, rendering errors, crashes and high hardware requirements.

Demon's Souls running at 10 to 18 FPS and Astro Bot at around 11 FPS are development milestones rather than finished experiences.

Still, KyTyPS5's recent pace suggests PS5 emulation is moving from basic booting experiments toward increasingly functional gameplay much sooner than many expected.
