GTA 6 Everything We Know About Release Date, Price, Map, Gameplay and Features

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, bringing Rockstar Games back to Vice City with two playable protagonists, a much larger version of Leonida, expanded simulation systems, and a more detailed approach to combat and police behavior.

Rockstar has not announced a PC release date. Based on the series' history, the PC version is expected later, although recent reports suggest the gap may be shorter than in previous Grand Theft Auto launches.

The game is built on an evolved version of Rockstar's RAGE engine and is expected to place greater emphasis on ray traced lighting, dense environments, character simulation, and a more persistent world.

GTA 6 Returns to Vice City With a Much Larger Map

The game returns to Vice City, Rockstar's fictional version of Miami, but the city is now only one part of the larger state of Leonida.

Confirmed regions include Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Rockstar has said Vice City itself is around twice as large as GTA 5's Los Santos, while the new game reportedly contains around eleven times as many smaller towns.

Community mapping projects have estimated that the full playable landmass could be more than twice the size of GTA 5's map, although that figure is not an official Rockstar measurement.

The world is set in the modern day and places strong emphasis on contemporary social media culture, nightlife, tourism, crime, wealth, and Florida inspired environments.

Jason and Lucia Lead the Story

GTA 6 introduces Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as its two main playable characters.

Jason has a background involving crime, military service, and drug running in the Leonida Keys.

Lucia begins the story after leaving Leonida Penitentiary and is trying to build a more stable future.

Their relationship forms the center of the narrative after a criminal job goes wrong and pulls them into a larger conspiracy across Leonida.

The structure allows you to switch between Jason and Lucia.

When they are together, switching can happen immediately. When they are in different locations, the transition works more like the character switching system used in GTA 5.

Combat and Police Systems Have Been Expanded

Rockstar's extended gameplay presentation revealed substantial changes to combat.

Manual aiming with aim assist replaces the stronger traditional auto lock system.

Characters can use cover more actively, duck behind furniture, vault across cars, and switch shoulder positions during firefights.

A bullet time mechanic inspired by Dead Eye uses a dedicated meter and highlights vulnerable areas such as heads, hands, and joints.

The six star Wanted system also returns after GTA 5 reduced the maximum to five stars.

Police AI reportedly considers your clothing, face, and vehicle when identifying you.

Changing clothes, covering your face, or switching cars can therefore help reduce the effectiveness of a police search instead of requiring you to simply escape the area.

Vehicle Theft Now Offers Different Approaches

Stealing cars has also become more detailed.

You can use a loud approach by smashing a window and physically removing the driver, or use a quieter Slim Jim method to unlock the vehicle without breaking the glass.

Rockstar is also expanding lifestyle systems.

Working out can increase visible muscle mass, poor eating habits can cause weight gain, and prolonged sleep deprivation or unstable living conditions can reportedly affect stamina and character appearance.

These systems suggest a deeper level of character simulation than GTA 5 offered.

Side Activities Include Sports, Diving and Racing

A wide range of optional activities has been shown or referenced.

These include basketball, scuba diving, jet skiing, kayaking, wrestling, shooting ranges, and structured racing events for cars and motorcycles.

Robberies also appear to use a three tier system that can apply to stores across Leonida.

The game is expected to contain hundreds of vehicles, including sports cars, muscle cars, SUVs, police vehicles, commercial trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, helicopters, planes, and specialist off road vehicles.

More than 280 vehicles have reportedly been identified through released footage and screenshots, although this is based on community analysis rather than an official Rockstar list.

GTA 6 Will Cost $80 for the Standard Edition

Rockstar has priced the Standard Edition at $80.

The Ultimate Edition costs $100 and includes additional vehicles, weapons, clothing, garages, customization locations, activities, and other content.

Preorders also include the Vintage Vice City Pack.

That package contains a 1955 Vapid Stanier, Shore Court Garage, outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a special weapon pattern.

Digital preorders additionally include one month of GTA+.

The physical version is reported to include a digital code rather than a game disc.

Technical Ambitions Could Keep Console Performance at 30fps

Rockstar has not published final resolution or performance specifications.

Footage shown on a standard PlayStation 5 reportedly targeted around 1440p at 30fps.

The game makes extensive use of ray traced global illumination and ray traced reflections, although some reflections use a hybrid approach with screen space techniques.

Because ray tracing appears closely tied to the game's visual design, a 60fps mode on standard consoles remains uncertain.

Xbox Series S may require larger compromises in resolution and ray tracing due to its lower available memory.

PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to offer the strongest console presentation, particularly if Rockstar supports Sony's latest PSSR upscaling technology.

GTA Online Is Expected to Become Even More Important

Rockstar has not fully detailed GTA 6 Online, but the online component is expected to be a major part of the game's long term strategy.

Technical patents suggest Rockstar is working on reducing interruptions caused by joining and leaving sessions, which could create a more persistent multiplayer environment.

There has also been speculation that user generated content will play a larger role, especially following Rockstar's investment in Cfx.re and the expansion of official tools around FiveM and RedM.

Claims that GTA 6 will offer extensive creator monetization remain unconfirmed.

Sales Expectations Are Extremely High

GTA 5 has sold more than 225 million copies, giving its successor an unusually large potential audience.

Preliminary estimates cited in the supplied information suggest GTA 6 generated around $260 million in global preorder revenue during its first week.

Some analysts have projected more than 45 million copies sold around launch, while another model suggested as many as 51 million units by the end of launch week.

Those figures remain forecasts rather than confirmed sales.

For now, November 19, 2026 remains the key date. Rockstar still has several important details to reveal before launch, including final console performance modes, complete online features, and the timing of the eventual PC version.
