Ghost Recon Wildlands Gets Free Last Rites Mission and 60 FPS Update on Consoles

Ubisoft has returned to Ghost Recon Wildlands with a free anniversary update that adds a new standalone mission, major console improvements and the long requested option to play at 60 FPS.

The update, called Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, arrives as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations. It introduces a new mission set in a darker version of Bolivia while also improving image quality, lighting, shadows and draw distance on current generation consoles.

Players can also customize far more of the experience than before, including difficulty, enemy behavior, damage values, weather and interface settings.

The new mission was developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and takes players into territory controlled by Los Penitentes, a violent cult operating in a more oppressive version of Bolivia.

The Ghosts must track down cult leader La Llorona while moving through swamps and dense forest environments where visibility is limited.

60 FPS finally comes to current generation consoles

One of the most important additions is the new performance upgrade for consoles.

Ghost Recon Wildlands can now run at 60 FPS on current generation hardware, making combat and movement considerably smoother than before.

The update also improves overall presentation with sharper image quality, better distance rendering and enhanced lighting and shadows.

Ubisoft is targeting 4K resolution alongside the higher frame rate, although exact behavior may vary depending on platform and scene complexity.

For a tactical shooter where aiming, movement and enemy response matter constantly, the jump to 60 FPS should be one of the most noticeable improvements in the entire update.

Players get much more control over difficulty

Last Rites also expands customization.

Players can now change several gameplay and presentation settings to make Wildlands easier, harder or more realistic.

Enemy behavior can be adjusted, while damage values, weapon restrictions and friendly fire can also be modified.

Environmental settings such as weather can be changed as well, and HUD elements can be reduced or removed for players who prefer a more immersive experience.

These options make it possible to shape Wildlands around different play styles rather than relying only on fixed difficulty presets.

Predator event makes a return

The anniversary update also brings back the Predator event.

That encounter allows players to fight the extraterrestrial hunter in a special crossover mission.

Its return is notable because the event had previously become unavailable, leaving newer players unable to experience it.

Bringing it back alongside Last Rites gives longtime players another reason to reinstall the game while giving newer players access to one of Wildlands’ more unusual activities.

Ubisoft is making several Ghost Recon games free temporarily

The anniversary celebration extends beyond Wildlands.

Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are free to play from August 6 through August 10.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier can also be claimed free on PC through Ubisoft Connect from August 6 through August 13.

A Ghost Recon Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle is planned for next month and will include several free cosmetic and equipment items, including the M4A1 Tactical Brown, Wolf Enhanced Helmet and Opheis Mk.II Hunter.

Ubisoft is also preparing the future of Ghost Recon

Players can now join the Ghost Recon Insider Program for a chance to provide feedback on the next game in the series.

Ubisoft has not officially detailed that project yet, although reports have suggested that a new Ghost Recon title is in development.

Its exact direction and release timing remain uncertain.

For now, the Wildlands update gives the franchise a substantial anniversary release without requiring players to buy new content.

The combination of a new mission, 60 FPS console support, improved visuals, expanded difficulty settings and the returning Predator event makes Last Rites one of the largest updates Wildlands has received in years.
