Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, bringing a new four route story, expanded exploration, class progression, dungeon missions, and a time rewind system built into its tactical battles.
The game takes place in the Dagdan Empire, where the Heroic Games promise one wish to the winner. Five years after the tournament, the demon god Balor returns, the empire falls toward destruction, and four important heroes disappear.
You play as a soul sent by the progenitor god Sothis. Using the power of the goddess Fortuna, you travel back to the Heroic Games, follow the lives of four protagonists, and try to prevent the future collapse of the empire.
Each hero has a separate story route and its own progression. You can switch between them, revisit earlier events, and explore how different choices affect the larger conflict.
Four heroes lead separate story routes
The game allows you to choose from Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. Each enters the Heroic Games for a different reason and provides a separate view of the tournament and the events surrounding it.
| Hero | Background and goal |
|---|---|
| Cai | Enters the tournament to win a wish and free his imprisoned father |
| Dietrich | A fighter who survives an attack by a colossal monster and searches for allies |
| Theodora | A leader who wants to restore her goddess’s honour and protect Saramis |
| Leda | A noble musician pursuing the person responsible for her father’s death |
Progress is tracked independently for each hero. This means you can advance one route, return through time, and continue another without losing your place.
The four story structure should also allow the game to show the same major events from different perspectives. Relationships, battles, and political details may carry different meaning depending on the hero you follow.
Fortuna’s Blessing expands the rewind system
Battles retain the familiar Fire Emblem structure. You move units across a grid, study enemy ranges, use terrain, select weapons, and avoid dangerous counterattacks.
Fortuna’s Blessing is the main new mechanic. It allows you to rewind to an earlier point in a battle after making a decision.
| Battle system | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Grid movement | Controls positioning and attack range |
| Terrain effects | Changes movement and defensive advantages |
| Adjacent unit bonuses | Rewards careful formation |
| Combat Arts | Trades weapon durability for stronger techniques |
| Fortuna’s Blessing | Rewinds failed moves or prevents a unit from falling |
| Blaze Arts | Powerful hero abilities that consume health |
The rewind system appears broader than a simple turn reset because it can return you to any earlier point in the encounter. This gives you more room to correct mistakes, test another strategy, or protect an important character.

Each hero also has a Blaze Art. Cai can release a wide fire attack, Dietrich can move around the battlefield using a dark cloak, and Leda can strengthen allies or summon a powerful creature through her vihuela.
Class progression includes familiar and unusual roles
Fortune’s Weave includes five Beginner Classes, more than ten Specialty Classes, and several Advanced Classes.
Confirmed examples include gladiators, diviners, armoured knights, wing soldiers, charioteers, cataphracts, guardians, and elephant riders.
Classes affect movement, equipment, battlefield roles, and available abilities.
| Class feature | Effect |
|---|---|
| Movement type | Changes how a unit crosses terrain |
| Weapon access | Determines available attack options |
| Combat role | Supports offence, defence, mobility, or assistance |
| Class abilities | Adds specialised tactical advantages |
| Certification exams | Unlocks new class options |
Weapons include swords, spears, axes, bows, magic, and gauntlets. The game also adds less traditional equipment, including swords that call down lightning and gauntlets that behave like firearms.
Combat Arts return as stronger techniques with a durability cost. These attacks may offer added range, special effects, or increased damage at the expense of weapon life.
Dagsion serves as the main preparation hub
Between tournament matches, you can explore the capital city of Dagsion.
Time is limited, so activities must be chosen carefully. You can train, shop, improve equipment, speak with potential recruits, complete side quests, and collect information about future opponents.
| Dagsion location | Activity |
|---|---|
| Arena | Improves combat skills |
| Shopping arcade | Buys and upgrades equipment |
| Temple Row | Provides battle blessings |
| Certification areas | Unlocks new classes |
| Inns | Restores the party and builds support relationships |
| City districts | Offers recruitment, quests, and information |
Meals at inns can strengthen relationships and provide experience. Inns also gather materials automatically, while gifts and conversations can persuade new characters to join your group.
These systems add a planning layer between battles. Spending time on one activity may mean giving up another opportunity, making preparation part of the strategy.
World travel and dungeons add new battle types
The game also includes a world map beyond Dagsion. Travelling between locations consumes time, so every trip needs to serve a clear purpose.
Towns provide regional goods and information, while skirmishes offer chances to strengthen the party. Each hero also has a unique ability used during world exploration.
Dungeons contain materials needed for weapon upgrades and other rewards. Their encounters use a separate turn based combat structure that allows allies to combine attacks.
| World activity | Reward or consequence |
|---|---|
| Town visits | Local items and information |
| Skirmishes | Experience and party growth |
| Dungeon exploration | Upgrade materials and other rewards |
| Long distance travel | Consumes limited time |
| Hero abilities | Unlock unique exploration options |
This gives Fortune’s Weave more variety than a sequence of standard grid battles. The structure combines tournament matches, city preparation, world exploration, and dungeon combat.
Auto Battle and Skip options improve accessibility
The presentation also showed options to use Auto Battle or skip directly to a battle’s conclusion in selected situations.
These tools may help players move through easier fights more quickly or manage repeated encounters without manually controlling every action.
The game still places positioning and tactical planning at the centre of important battles, but the additional options could reduce repetition during lower risk encounters.
Dagdan Collection includes physical extras
Nintendo will offer a special Dagdan Collection alongside the standard release.
| Dagdan Collection item | Included |
|---|---|
| SteelBook | Yes |
| Character art cards | Yes |
| Map of Dagda | Yes |
| Artbook | Yes |
| Game platform | Nintendo Switch 2 |
Preorders are open through the Nintendo eShop. Pricing listed with the game is $69.99.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave appears to expand the traditional tactical formula with four interconnected stories, extensive preparation systems, world exploration, and a more flexible rewind mechanic. Its September 17 launch will give Switch 2 owners a large strategy RPG built specifically for Nintendo’s new hardware.
