Dell Back to School Deals Drop XPS 13, Dell 15 and Dell 16 Below $600

Dell has launched a new round of back to school discounts that bring several Windows laptops below the $600 mark, including the latest XPS 13 alongside larger Dell 15 and Dell 16 models.

The new XPS 13 starts at $599.99 with student pricing and uses Intel’s latest Wildcat Lake processor platform. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR5x memory, a 512GB SSD and a 2.5K display, while weighing just 2.2 pounds.

Dell is also discounting larger models with more memory and storage, giving students several options depending on whether they prioritize portability, RAM capacity or screen size.

The three models target different priorities, with the XPS 13 focusing on portability while the Dell 15 and Dell 16 offer more memory for roughly the same price.

XPS 13 is the lightest option

The latest XPS 13 is Dell’s most portable choice in the group.

It weighs 2.2 pounds and is being positioned as the company’s thinnest and lightest XPS laptop so far.

The discounted configuration uses an Intel Core 5 320 processor, 8GB of high speed LPDDR5x memory running at 7,467 MT/s and a 512GB SSD.

Dell says the processor configuration can deliver up to 17 hours of battery life.

The main limitation is memory capacity.

While 8GB remains enough for basic web browsing, documents and lighter productivity work, students using demanding creative applications, virtual machines or heavier multitasking may benefit from a 16GB system instead.

Microsoft continues working to reduce Windows 11 memory usage, but hardware requirements still depend heavily on the applications being used.

Dell 15 offers 16GB RAM and 1TB storage for less

The Dell 15 is currently the least expensive of the three highlighted systems at $549.99, down from $999.99.

It uses an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U processor paired with 16GB of DDR4 3200 MT/s memory.

Storage capacity increases to 1TB, double that of the XPS 13 and Dell 16 configurations.

That makes the Dell 15 particularly useful for students who store larger amounts of local data, including coursework, photos, development tools or media files.

The tradeoff is that it is based on an older platform and uses DDR4 rather than newer DDR5 memory.

For many everyday tasks, however, the extra RAM and storage may matter more than having the newest processor generation.

Dell 16 adds a larger touchscreen

The Dell 16 is also available for $599.99, down from $1,029.99.

It includes an AMD Ryzen 7 250 processor, 16GB of DDR5 5600 MT/s memory and a 512GB SSD.

Its 16 inch Full HD+ touchscreen gives it the largest display of the three systems.

That extra screen space can be useful for spreadsheets, coding, research or working with multiple windows at once.

The tradeoff is portability.

The Dell 16 weighs 4.18 pounds, making it significantly heavier than the 2.2 pound XPS 13.

Students carrying a laptop between classes every day may therefore prefer the smaller system, while people working mainly from a desk may value the larger screen more.

Choosing between portability, RAM and storage

The three discounted laptops are closely grouped in price, but their strengths are different.

The XPS 13 is the most attractive option for portability. Its low weight, modern processor and compact design make it easier to carry around throughout the day.

The Dell 15 offers the strongest storage value, with 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD for $549.99.

The Dell 16 provides a balance between memory and screen size, pairing 16GB of DDR5 RAM with a large touchscreen.

For students who only need browser based tools, Office applications and general coursework, the 8GB XPS 13 may be sufficient.

Anyone expecting heavier multitasking or more demanding software may be better served by one of the 16GB models.
