First DLC is being refined for release this year
Pearl Abyss says development of the first Crimson Desert DLC is progressing, with the expansion still scheduled for release in 2026.
The studio is currently refining the content direction and overall quality.
Specific information about the expansion, including its price, content and launch timing, is expected to be announced during the third quarter of 2026.
No details have been provided about the DLC’s story, map size, characters or gameplay structure.
The timing could become important because the second half of 2026 already has a crowded release calendar. Pearl Abyss has not indicated whether this will influence the final launch date.
Switch 2 version has reached a playable state
The Nintendo Switch 2 version has also made meaningful progress.
Pearl Abyss says the port has reached a playable baseline and is now undergoing technical review focused on performance optimization and quality standards.
The company is targeting release during the first half of 2027.
Its stated goal is to preserve Crimson Desert’s core graphics, combat and open world experience rather than simply reducing the game until it runs on the hardware.
That could make the port technically challenging given the differences between Switch 2 and more powerful platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Crimson Desert uses Pearl Abyss’ proprietary BlackSpace Engine, which was developed specifically for the game. That gives the studio direct control over the technology as it works to optimize the experience for Nintendo’s hardware.

The company has made clear that Crimson Desert is not being treated as a single release.

That means multiplayer should not be considered a confirmed upcoming feature.

Crimson Desert support continues after launch
Crimson Desert launched earlier in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Pearl Abyss has continued to release free updates since March.
The company’s current roadmap shows that post launch support is moving beyond patches and smaller improvements.
The first paid DLC is expected later this year, while the Switch 2 version is planned for the first half of 2027.
