Sega has opened applications for a closed network test of Crazy Taxi: World Tour, giving selected players an early opportunity to try the game’s online multiplayer before its planned 2027 release.
The test will run from September 11 through September 13 on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Applications remain open until August 31, although registration does not guarantee access.
Participants will be able to play two multiplayer modes called Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies. Both will support ranked matchmaking and custom lobbies, with private sessions offering options to adjust certain rules.
The test will also include two maps, four playable characters and six vehicles. Each car will support different tuning options, allowing players to adjust their setup before entering a match.

Pickup Race turns passenger deliveries into a competition
Pickup Race allows up to six players to compete against one another within a fixed time limit. The objective is to collect passengers, deliver them to their destinations and earn as much money as possible before the match ends.
The format applies Crazy Taxi’s familiar driving system to a competitive online structure. Players will need to choose efficient routes, avoid losing time in traffic and decide which passengers are worth collecting.
Speed alone may not be enough to win. A player who drives quickly but selects poor routes could earn less than someone who completes shorter and more reliable journeys. Vehicle tuning may also affect acceleration, handling and overall performance.
Custom lobbies will let groups change some of the rules, which could help the mode support both competitive sessions and more relaxed matches between friends.
Cops ‘N’ Cabbies divides players into two teams
Cops ‘N’ Cabbies uses a team format rather than a free competition. Six players are divided into two groups of three, although Sega has not provided a complete explanation of each side’s objectives.
The name suggests that one team will drive taxis while the other takes the role of police vehicles. This could create an uneven style of play in which one group focuses on completing objectives while the other attempts to stop them.
More details should become available when the closed test begins. Sega will likely use the event to examine matchmaking, server stability, vehicle balance and the clarity of the mode’s rules.
Player behaviour will also help the development team identify problems that may not appear during internal testing. Network tests are particularly useful for finding connection issues, unexpected strategies and balance problems involving specific cars or tuning combinations.
Applications are limited to selected countries
The test will only be available in supported regions. Eligible locations include the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
Players in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Hong Kong can also apply.

You will need a Sega account and must select one of the three supported platforms during registration. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is not included in this network test, even though the full game is planned for the system.
Sega has not said how many participants will be accepted or when invitations will be distributed. Applicants should therefore check the details connected to their Sega account before the test begins.
World Tour brings back the series with online play
Crazy Taxi: World Tour was announced in June as a new entry in Sega’s arcade driving series. It will include a single player story mode alongside its online multiplayer features.
The original Crazy Taxi games focused on collecting passengers and racing through busy environments while earning bonuses for fast and aggressive driving. World Tour appears to retain that foundation while expanding it through competitive modes, multiple vehicles and online matchmaking.
The complete game is scheduled to launch sometime in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A specific release date has not been announced.
The September network test should provide the clearest look so far at how Crazy Taxi’s fast passenger delivery system works in multiplayer. It will also give Sega useful feedback before the game moves closer to its full launch.
