Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Beta Will Include a Campaign Mission for the First Time

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will make a major change to the usual beta format by including a single player campaign mission alongside multiplayer.

The mission is called Entrenched and will be available during both beta weekends. This marks the first time a Call of Duty beta has included a playable campaign mission, giving you an early look at the story before the full game launches on October 23, 2026.

The first beta weekend begins on August 21 and is limited to players with early access. A second open beta weekend follows on August 28 and will also include Nintendo Switch 2.

The campaign mission appears to be positioned early in the story, which would allow Activision to show the single player experience without revealing too much of the wider plot.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the addition and also shared a short video teaser for the mission.

Early access weekend includes six multiplayer maps

The first beta period will run from August 21 through August 25.

Players who preorder Modern Warfare 4 on PC, Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 will be able to participate.

Alongside Entrenched, the beta will include six multiplayer maps:

Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, Lotus and Kill Block.

Nine multiplayer modes will rotate across those maps during the test.

This gives the first weekend a broader focus than previous Call of Duty betas, since players will be able to move between traditional competitive multiplayer and a dedicated single player mission.

Second weekend opens the beta to everyone

The second beta weekend begins on August 28 and runs through September 1.

Unlike the first period, this session will be open to everyone and will not require a preorder.

The campaign mission will remain available, while the multiplayer offering will expand with additional maps and modes.

Nintendo Switch 2 players will also be able to participate during this second weekend, making it the first beta period to include the new Nintendo platform.

The broader platform support matches Activision’s plans for the full game, which is scheduled for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Call of Duty NEXT returns on August 21

Activision will also hold its Call of Duty NEXT event on August 21, the same day the first beta weekend begins.

The event will provide the first major look at Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer, along with developer commentary and additional announcements that have not yet been detailed.

The second weekend will also introduce Zodiac, a new Warzone Resurgence map.

With the campaign mission now included in the beta, Activision is giving players access to more of Modern Warfare 4 than usual before launch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to release on October 23, 2026 across PC through Steam, Xbox and Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
