Blizzard has reportedly finished Microsoft's 2026 fiscal year as the top performing studio within Xbox's game development organization, helped by strong results from Diablo 4 and Overwatch.
The claim comes from an internal message attributed to Blizzard president Johanna Faries. According to the message, fiscal 2026 became Blizzard's third highest year ever for top line revenue, while fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2026 marked its first consecutive years of growth since fiscal 2017.
The results suggest that Blizzard has regained momentum across several of its major franchises after years of restructuring and uneven performance.
Blizzard reports back to back growth
| Area | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Xbox studio ranking | Top performing studio in FY26 |
| Blizzard revenue ranking | Third highest fiscal year in company history |
| Growth trend | FY25 and FY26 both grew |
| Previous similar streak | Last seen in FY17 |
| Strong performers | Diablo 4 and Overwatch |
| Overwatch result | Strongest quarter since 2022 |
| Next major event | BlizzCon 2026 |
Diablo 4 was singled out as one of the biggest contributors, alongside Overwatch.
The upcoming Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred expansion appears to be part of the broader momentum surrounding the franchise, while Overwatch reportedly delivered its strongest quarterly performance since 2022.
That is notable because Overwatch has gone through significant changes over the past several years, including shifts in content strategy and attempts to rebuild player confidence.
Strong recent performance suggests those efforts are beginning to translate into better business results.
Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch are all contributing
Blizzard's recovery has not been limited to one franchise.
Warcraft continues to provide the company with a large recurring audience, while Diablo has become one of its strongest growth areas through Diablo 4 and its expansion strategy.
Overwatch has also returned to stronger engagement after a more difficult period.
The combination gives Blizzard several active franchises capable of generating recurring revenue rather than depending on one major release.
That matters within Xbox because Microsoft now manages a much larger collection of game studios following years of acquisitions.
Becoming the strongest performer inside that group would put Blizzard in an important position as Microsoft evaluates future investment and development priorities.
BlizzCon 2026 could build on the momentum
BlizzCon is scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2026, and Blizzard is expected to use the event to show more of its upcoming projects.
One likely focus is World of Warcraft: The Last Titan, which represents another major step in the long running MMO's current story arc.
A new StarCraft project has also been rumored, reportedly taking the form of a third person shooter.
Neither project has been fully detailed, so any information beyond official announcements should still be treated cautiously.

Additional mobile games and possible film or television adaptations have also been discussed as potential areas of expansion.
Blizzard has already shown that its franchises can extend beyond traditional PC and console games. Diablo Immortal demonstrated that there is a substantial audience for mobile versions of its established brands.
Strong results do not remove wider Xbox uncertainty
Blizzard's improved performance comes during a period of broader change across Microsoft's gaming division.
Even a successful studio is not automatically protected from cost reductions, restructuring or changes in development priorities.
That makes the reported performance especially important because strong revenue and engagement can give a studio more influence when resources are being allocated.
The results also show why Microsoft continues to place substantial value on Blizzard's established franchises.
Diablo, Warcraft and Overwatch each have large global audiences and can support years of updates, expansions and additional projects.
If the internal figures are accurate, Blizzard has now converted that portfolio into two consecutive years of growth and its strongest relative position inside Xbox.
The next test will be whether that momentum continues through upcoming releases and BlizzCon announcements. For now, Diablo 4 and Overwatch appear to have helped Blizzard become one of the most commercially important parts of Microsoft's gaming business.
