Blizzard Hints World of Warcraft Could Come to Xbox Consoles as Project Helix Plans Take Shape

Blizzard has renewed speculation about bringing World of Warcraft to Xbox consoles, with franchise vice president Holly Longdale suggesting that the company's long term plans could eventually extend beyond PC gaming.

The comments come ahead of World of Warcraft: Forever, which launches on November 5, 2026, as a PC exclusive.

Although the game is not coming to Xbox Series X or Series S at launch, Blizzard has introduced native controller support, allowing players to enjoy the MMORPG on handheld gaming PCs such as the ROG Xbox Ally.

Longdale described controller support as an important first step toward making World of Warcraft accessible across more devices.

World of Warcraft Controller Support Could Help Future Xbox Releases

During a recent interview, Longdale discussed Blizzard's plans to expand how players access World of Warcraft.

She explained that the company's goal is to let people play wherever they want and, eventually, on whatever device they prefer.

However, Blizzard's immediate priority is ensuring that World of Warcraft works properly with controllers.

This represents an important development for a game traditionally designed around keyboards and mice.

World of Warcraft features numerous abilities, menus, and interface elements that require careful adaptation for controller input.

By introducing native gamepad support in World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard can begin addressing those challenges without immediately committing to a console release.

The improvements could also benefit players who prefer controllers on desktop PCs or handheld gaming devices.

Xbox Project Helix Could Make a Console Version Easier

Longdale also mentioned Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Project Helix while discussing the future of gaming platforms.

Project Helix is expected to bring Xbox hardware and PC gaming closer together, potentially making it easier for developers to support games across both environments.

Because World of Warcraft already runs on Windows PCs, a future Xbox platform with broader PC compatibility could reduce some technical barriers.

However, Longdale did not confirm that Blizzard is developing a native Xbox version or provide a potential release window.

The comments suggest that console compatibility remains a possibility rather than an announced project.

World of Warcraft Forever Remains PC Exclusive at Launch

World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 5 with controller support among its significant accessibility improvements.

The game will also be playable on compatible Windows handhelds, giving players another way to experience the MMORPG.

For Xbox console owners, however, there is still no confirmed release date.

Blizzard has not announced plans to bring Forever to Xbox Series X or Series S, and it remains unclear whether a future console version would target those systems or Project Helix.

Longdale's comments indicate that Blizzard is interested in expanding device support, but a native Xbox release will depend on further development and an official announcement.
