Bethesda is looking into bringing some of the optimizations developed for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to other platforms, including Xbox Series X|S.
The possibility follows renewed criticism of the game’s performance on Xbox, where players have continued to report problems more than a year after release. Bethesda has now acknowledged requests for another patch and says the Switch 2 version includes several optimizations that could potentially be adapted elsewhere.
No release date or specific list of changes has been announced.

The Switch 2 release has drawn attention because it appears to benefit from technical work that has not yet reached the older console versions.
Xbox players have been waiting for further fixes
Oblivion Remastered launched on Xbox Series X|S in April 2025, but performance concerns have continued well beyond launch.
A later technical analysis highlighted a possible memory leak that could cause performance to deteriorate over time, making the game increasingly difficult to play during longer sessions.
That history has made the appearance of a more optimized Switch 2 version especially noticeable.
Players have questioned why the new Nintendo port received additional technical work while the existing Xbox version still has unresolved problems.
Bethesda has now responded directly to that concern.
Switch 2 optimizations could be adapted to other platforms
Bethesda says the Switch 2 edition contains a number of optimizations that the studio is evaluating for possible use elsewhere.
The company has not explained what those optimizations involve.
They could relate to memory management, asset streaming, resolution handling, CPU load, rendering behavior or other technical areas, but none of those possibilities has been confirmed.
For now, the important point is that Bethesda is actively looking at whether the newer work can improve the Xbox version.
That is not the same as confirming that every Switch 2 optimization will arrive on Xbox.
The Switch 2 version is not problem free
The Nintendo version itself still has performance limitations.
Earlier comparisons have shown that it can suffer frame rate drops, particularly in open environments.

However, it also benefits from changes that appear to improve overall efficiency compared with the older console builds.
That has created a useful technical reference point for Bethesda as it considers future patches.
The Switch 2 edition therefore matters beyond Nintendo’s platform because some of the engineering work may now influence updates for Xbox and other systems.
No patch timing has been announced
Bethesda has not committed to a date for another Xbox update.
The company says it will share more information when it is able.
That means Xbox players should not assume a patch is imminent.
The current status is simply that Bethesda has heard the feedback and is investigating whether Switch 2 optimizations can be brought across.
Performance remains the main concern
Oblivion Remastered is still widely regarded as a substantial visual overhaul of the original game, but its technical issues have remained one of the biggest complaints since launch.
If Bethesda can successfully adapt the newer Switch 2 work to Xbox Series X|S, it could address some of the long standing performance problems without requiring a complete rebuild.
For now, though, the improvements remain under consideration rather than officially scheduled.
The next major update will depend on which Switch 2 optimizations can be transferred successfully and whether Bethesda decides they are suitable for the other console versions.
