Beast of Reincarnation has received a new gameplay trailer focused on its combat system, showing how Game Freak is combining fast sword fighting with command based abilities.
The action role playing game follows Emma, a cursed warrior travelling through a ruined version of Japan with her dog companion, Koo. Together, they must fight mutated creatures and hostile machines while searching for a way to save what remains of humanity.
Most battles take place in real time. Emma can attack with her sword, dodge incoming strikes, and parry enemies at the correct moment. These basic actions form the foundation of combat, but the game also adds a tactical command system that gives Koo an active role during fights.
Players will need to move between direct control of Emma and carefully timed commands for Koo. This combination appears especially important during encounters with larger enemies and bosses.
Emma can stun enemies and create openings for powerful attacks
Repeated attacks increase an enemy’s stun gauge. Once the gauge is filled, the target becomes vulnerable and can be hit with a stronger finishing move.
Successfully damaging enemies also generates a resource called FP. When enough FP has been collected, time slows and players can choose one of Koo’s special Bloom Arts from a command menu.
Bloom Arts can damage enemies, apply status effects, or weaken specific parts of a target. These effects create openings for Emma to continue attacking with her sword.
The system gives players time to consider their next action without fully stopping the pace of combat. Careful use of FP may determine whether a difficult encounter becomes manageable or ends quickly in defeat.
| Combat feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Real time swordplay | Emma attacks, dodges, and parries enemies |
| Stun gauge | Repeated damage creates an opening for finishers |
| FP resource | Generated during combat and spent on Koo’s abilities |
| Command system | Slows time while players select a Bloom Art |
| Status effects | Koo can weaken or disrupt enemies |
| Skill tree | Skill points unlock new abilities for Emma |
| Boss rewards | Victories can provide additional Bloom Arts |
Boss battles require both quick reactions and tactical choices
The latest footage shows Emma fighting groups of machines and several large creatures. Some enemies use fast physical attacks, while others rely on wide area abilities that require careful positioning.
Parrying appears to be especially important. A well timed defensive move can interrupt an attack and provide a chance to respond. Missing the timing may leave Emma exposed to heavy damage.

Koo’s abilities can support these reactions by weakening enemies or applying effects before Emma moves in for a stronger attack. Players who only rely on sword strikes may struggle against bosses with greater health and more complex attack patterns.
Defeating major enemies rewards players with new Bloom Arts for Koo. Emma also receives skill points that can be spent through a progression tree to unlock additional combat techniques.
The trailer briefly shows Emma changing into a form that combines human and plant features during certain attacks. The full purpose of this transformation has not been explained, but it appears connected to her curse and may provide some of her strongest abilities.
Game Freak is moving beyond its familiar Pokémon formula
Beast of Reincarnation is a major change from the games most closely associated with Game Freak. Instead of turn based creature battles and bright environments, it uses a darker setting, direct action combat, and large cinematic encounters.
The project shows the studio working with a new property and a different style of gameplay. Its combination of sword combat and tactical commands could give it a distinct identity among modern action role playing games.
Beast of Reincarnation will launch on August 4, 2026, for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PC through Windows and Steam.
The game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on its release day. Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere support are planned, allowing eligible players to continue their progress across supported Xbox consoles and Windows PCs.
