Epic Games Store has started its latest weekly PC game giveaway, offering Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together for free until August 13, 2026.
Both games can be added permanently to your Epic Games Store library during the promotion. Once claimed, they remain tied to your account after the giveaway ends.
The new pair replaces last week’s free games, OTXO and Sol Cesto. This week’s selection covers two very different styles, with Beacon Pines offering a story driven single player adventure and We Were Here Together focusing entirely on two player cooperative puzzle solving.
Epic Games Store free games for this week
| Game | Genre | Players | Free until | Keep permanently |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beacon Pines | Narrative adventure | 1 | August 13, 2026 | Yes |
| We Were Here Together | First person puzzle adventure | 2 | August 13, 2026 | Yes |
You need to claim the games before the deadline. Simply downloading them is not required for permanent ownership as long as they are successfully added to your Epic Games Store account during the promotion.
Two new free games are expected to replace them once the current giveaway ends.
Beacon Pines lets your choices reshape the story
Beacon Pines is a narrative adventure built around a storybook structure.
You play as Luka, a young resident of the town of Beacon Pines who begins investigating unusual events alongside his friends. Adults in the community appear unaware of what is happening, leaving the younger characters to uncover the mystery themselves.
One of the game’s central mechanics involves collecting golden charms. Each charm contains a word that can be inserted into specific points in the story.
Choosing a different word can significantly alter what happens next, creating new branches in the narrative and allowing you to revisit key moments with different possibilities.
| Beacon Pines feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Main character | Luka |
| Setting | Beacon Pines |
| Core structure | Interactive storybook |
| Key mechanic | Collecting word charms |
| Choice system | Words change later events |
| Tone | Cute presentation with darker mystery elements |
The system gives the game a different approach to branching storytelling. Rather than selecting standard dialogue options, you use collected words to rewrite important moments.
This encourages experimentation because an unsuccessful path can still reveal information that helps unlock another possibility later.
We Were Here Together requires two players
We Were Here Together takes a very different approach.
The game is designed specifically for two people and cannot be completed as a traditional solo experience. Each player explores different areas while relying on communication to solve puzzles.

The adventure is set in a frozen Antarctic environment, with the pair attempting to escape from the mysterious Castle Rock.
Both players begin with limited information and a walkie talkie. Many puzzles are asymmetrical, meaning one person may have information that the other needs but cannot see.
| We Were Here Together feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Perspective | First person |
| Player count | Exactly two |
| Main focus | Cooperative puzzle solving |
| Communication | Walkie talkies |
| Setting | Antarctica |
| Location | Castle Rock |
| Puzzle design | Asymmetrical |
Clear communication is therefore essential.
You may need to describe symbols, objects, layouts, or instructions to your partner while they solve a puzzle somewhere else. The structure makes cooperation part of the actual gameplay rather than simply allowing two people to complete the same tasks together.
The two games offer very different experiences
This week’s giveaway gives you a choice between a slower narrative game and a communication heavy cooperative adventure.
Beacon Pines is better suited to players who prefer exploration, mysteries, character driven stories, and branching choices.
We Were Here Together is designed for people who have a regular co-op partner and enjoy solving puzzles through discussion.
| If you prefer | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Single player stories | Beacon Pines |
| Branching narratives | Beacon Pines |
| Mystery and exploration | Beacon Pines |
| Two player co-op | We Were Here Together |
| Communication puzzles | We Were Here Together |
| First person exploration | We Were Here Together |
There is no need to choose only one. Both can be claimed during the giveaway period.
You have until August 13 to claim both games
Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together will remain free until August 13.
After that deadline, their normal prices are expected to return and the Epic Games Store will rotate in another weekly selection.
The important step is adding each game to your library before the offer ends. Once claimed, you can install and play them whenever you want rather than finishing them during the free week.
PC players looking for additional free games also have other limited promotions available elsewhere, including Moonlighter on Steam during its separate giveaway period.
For this week’s Epic Games Store promotion, Beacon Pines is the stronger option if you want a compact story driven adventure, while We Were Here Together is built for players who want a dedicated two person puzzle experience. Since both are free to keep, there is little reason not to claim the pair before August 13.
