AMD has released FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) Redstone SDK 2.4, introducing expanded Vulkan support, improved frame pacing and updated AI upscaling technologies for supported Radeon graphics cards.
The latest development kit includes FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, Frame Generation 4.0.2 and Ray Regeneration 1.2.1, alongside improvements to existing analytical upscaling features.
AMD has made the updated libraries and development samples available to developers, allowing them to integrate the improvements directly into compatible games.
However, some features require updated graphics drivers or specific Radeon hardware, while existing games may need developer updates before benefiting from the changes.
AMD FSR 4.1.2 Expands Vulkan Support to More GPUs
One of the biggest improvements is expanded Vulkan compatibility for AMD's upscaling and frame generation technologies.
AMD says Vulkan now offers feature parity with DirectX 12 across supported machine learning and analytical implementations.
The SDK also expands FSR 4.1 support to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and compatible Ryzen processors.

Radeon RX 6000 GPUs and Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 processors can use the full INT8 model.
Meanwhile, supported Ryzen AI 9 and Ryzen Z2 processors use a smaller INT8 model requiring less than half the storage of the full implementation.
Existing Vulkan games cannot automatically switch from FSR 3.1 to newer machine learning models through driver updates alone.
Developers must first integrate the updated SDK.
Frame Generation Gets Improved Pacing on Radeon RX 9000 GPUs
AMD has introduced Driver Assisted Frame Pacing through FSR Frame Generation Swapchain 4.0.0.
The feature allows the graphics driver to manage frame presentation timing, potentially reducing CPU overhead and improving consistency.
It requires Radeon RX 9000 series hardware or newer, alongside Adrenalin 26.10.1 or later.
Additional conditions include fullscreen presentation, disabled VSync and operation within the display's variable refresh rate range.
| SDK component | Updated version |
|---|---|
| FSR Upscaling | 4.1.2 |
| FSR Frame Generation | 4.0.2 |
| Frame Generation Swapchain | 4.0.0 |
| Ray Regeneration | 1.2.1 |
| Analytical FSR | 3.1.6 |
Ray Regeneration and Developer Integration Also Improve
FSR Ray Regeneration 1.2.1 adds separate ambient occlusion and specular occlusion denoising capabilities for Radeon RX 9000 GPUs.
AMD has also addressed memory reporting problems, Vulkan validation errors and swapchain compatibility issues.
The SDK introduces improvements to DLL loading, potentially simplifying integration with third party tools.
Ray Regeneration and experimental Radiance Caching remain limited to DirectX 12.
Meanwhile, the current Unreal Engine plugin still uses older FSR components, with an update planned later.
Although SDK 2.4 is available now, the improvements will reach players as developers update their games and integrate the latest features.
