AI Server CPU Market Could Surpass $210 Billion by 2030 as AMD and Arm Gain on Intel

The server CPU market is expected to expand sharply through 2030 as AI workloads increase demand for processors alongside GPUs.

Current estimates suggest the total addressable market for server CPUs could exceed $210 billion by 2030, with AI focused processors accounting for the majority of that spending.

The growth is being linked in part to agentic AI workloads, which can depend heavily on general purpose CPUs for orchestration, data handling and supporting tasks around accelerator based systems.

AI related CPUs are already estimated to represent around 69% of the server CPU market in 2026.

That share is said to be 16 percentage points higher than in 2025 and 46 points above 2024, showing how quickly data center spending is shifting toward AI infrastructure.

By 2030, AI specific server CPUs are projected to represent roughly $180 billion of the market, compared with around $30 billion for conventional server processors.

Intel faces stronger competition from AMD and Arm

Intel remains a major force in server CPUs, but its long standing market dominance is continuing to weaken.

AMD has steadily gained share through its EPYC processor family, while Arm based server platforms are becoming more important as cloud providers and chip companies develop their own silicon.

The supplied estimates suggest Intel could fall from roughly 62% share to about 35.8% by 2030.

AMD is projected to reach around 31%, while Arm merchant processors and custom Arm designs together could account for another 30% to 35%.

That would leave the server CPU market much more evenly divided than it has been historically.

x86 is still expected to remain important for AI

Despite the rise of Arm, x86 processors from Intel and AMD are still expected to retain a large role in AI infrastructure.

Both companies already have extensive software ecosystems, enterprise support and established relationships with cloud and data center customers.

At the same time, Arm competition is growing through companies developing custom server processors and AI focused CPU designs.

NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Arm itself are among the companies pushing further into this market.

The result is likely to be a more competitive server landscape rather than a simple replacement of x86.

AI server CPU shipments could more than double

Unit shipments are also expected to rise significantly.

AI server CPU shipments are estimated at around 38 million units in 2026, up 27% from approximately 29.9 million units in 2025.

By 2030, shipments could reach around 82 million units.

Those projections depend on AI infrastructure demand remaining strong, but multi year data center investments and long term supply agreements are currently supporting that outlook.

Intel is losing unit share but improving revenue position

Intel's situation is more complicated than its declining unit share suggests.

The company is reportedly performing better in server CPU revenue share as processor prices rise and demand remains strong.

Shortages of newer server products have also made older Intel processors more valuable in some parts of the market, allowing the company to continue selling mature products into AI infrastructure deployments.

On the consumer side, Intel is also seeing some improvement in revenue share.

The company has been extending the life of DDR4 based Raptor Lake platforms as DDR5 costs rise, while aggressive retail discounts have helped improve the appeal of some desktop and mobile processors.

Even so, the larger growth opportunity remains in servers.

If current forecasts hold, AI related demand could transform the server CPU market through 2030, with AMD and Arm taking a larger share of the industry while Intel remains a major player in a much bigger overall market.
