Acer Predator Atlas 8 Launches at $1,299 With Intel Arc G3 Extreme, $500 Cheaper Than MSI Claw

Acer has confirmed that its Predator Atlas 8 gaming handheld will be available at Best Buy on November 1, 2026, for $1,299.99, following the removal of its initial preorder listing.

The handheld first became available for preorder on October 23, but its listing was subsequently taken down. Acer has now clarified that the device will return at its original launch price.

The Predator Atlas 8 is particularly interesting because it uses Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor, the same chip found in the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, which costs $1,799.99.

Despite sharing several major hardware features, Acer's handheld is $500 cheaper, largely because it offers less memory and storage.

Acer Predator Atlas 8 and MSI Claw Share Similar Hardware

Both handhelds use Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor, featuring 14 cores, a maximum clock speed of 4.7GHz and integrated Arc B390 graphics.

They also feature 8-inch IPS displays with a resolution of 1920 × 1200, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness and full sRGB color coverage.

Other shared specifications include Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, Hall Effect controls and an 80Wh battery.

However, Acer has reduced the memory and storage configurations to maintain a lower price.

The smaller SSD and reduced RAM capacity are likely significant factors behind Acer's lower manufacturing costs, particularly as memory and storage prices remain elevated.

Early Testing Suggests Strong Gaming Performance

Initial hands-on impressions indicate that the Predator Atlas 8 handles demanding games smoothly.

Games including Hogwarts Legacy and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight reportedly ran well during early demonstrations.

The handheld also appeared comfortable to hold, with a slightly smaller design than MSI's competing device.

However, there were differences in controller quality. Acer's joysticks reportedly felt better, while MSI offered more responsive triggers.

These observations come from limited testing, and a complete performance comparison will require further evaluation.

The Predator Atlas 8 remains expensive compared with earlier handhelds, including the original Steam Deck, which launched at $399 in 2022.

Nevertheless, its lower price makes Intel's latest handheld graphics technology more accessible than MSI's competing configuration.

With Acer confirming its November 1 availability at $1,299.99, the Predator Atlas 8 could become an appealing option for players seeking premium portable gaming performance without paying nearly $1,800.
