Acer has introduced the Nitro Blaze Link, a lightweight gaming handheld designed to stream games from a separate PC rather than run them directly on the device.
The handheld uses Linux and relies on Sunshine and Moonlight software for local network streaming. Games are rendered on a gaming computer, then sent to the Nitro Blaze Link over WiFi. This approach allows Acer to use modest hardware, including just 1GB of LPDDR4 memory and 8GB of eMMC storage.
The Nitro Blaze Link is therefore closer to a PlayStation Portal or Logitech G Cloud than a Steam Deck. It does not include a Ryzen processor, dedicated gaming graphics, or enough local storage for modern PC games.
Acer plans to release the device in North America during the fourth quarter of 2026. Pricing has not been announced, although it is expected to cost less than handhelds capable of running PC games natively.
The Handheld Depends on a Separate Gaming PC
The Nitro Blaze Link is designed for people who already own a gaming computer and want to play away from their desk while remaining on the same local network.
Sunshine runs on the host PC and captures the game, while Moonlight receives the video stream on the handheld. Controller inputs are sent back to the computer through the network.
This means the handheld itself does not need a powerful processor or large amount of memory. Its main tasks are decoding the incoming video, displaying it, and returning control inputs with as little delay as possible.

The low memory and storage capacities would make little sense for a conventional PC gaming handheld. For a dedicated streaming device, however, they may be sufficient if the operating system and background software remain lightweight.
WiFi Quality Will Determine the Experience
Acer is emphasizing support for WiFi 6 and 80MHz channels. The wireless standard includes technologies such as OFDMA, which can help several connected devices share network resources more efficiently.
A strong local connection is essential because the Nitro Blaze Link must continuously receive a video stream while sending controller inputs back to the host PC. Weak signal strength, congestion, packet loss, or interference could reduce image quality and increase input delay.

The best results will likely require the gaming PC to use a wired Ethernet connection. The handheld should also remain within good range of a modern router or access point.
Even with suitable equipment, the experience may vary between households. A network used by several people for video streaming, downloads, or online gaming could produce more latency than a quieter connection.
Local streaming normally avoids some of the delay associated with remote cloud services because the game runs inside the home. It still cannot offer the same consistency as running the game directly on the handheld.
Acer Includes a Full Set of Gaming Controls
The Nitro Blaze Link has a familiar handheld control layout. It includes ABXY face buttons, a directional pad, two joysticks, shoulder buttons, and triggers.
Additional controls include Start, Back, Home, a dedicated overlay button, and physical buttons for power and volume. The device also has stereo speakers and a 3.5mm connection for wired headphones.
Its 7 inch touchscreen has a 1200p resolution and supports five point touch input. The resolution should provide a reasonably sharp image at this screen size, although streaming quality will depend on the network connection and host PC settings.
The USB C port supports 15 watt charging. Acer has not provided battery capacity or expected operating time, so it is not yet possible to judge how long the device can stream between charges.
Compatibility Outside Acer PCs Remains Unclear
Acer says the Linux operating system has broad hardware compatibility, but the company is only positioning the handheld for use with its own Nitro and Predator gaming laptops.
It has not promised that the Nitro Blaze Link will work correctly with computers from other manufacturers. That limitation is notable because Sunshine and Moonlight are generally used across a wide range of PC hardware.
The wording may indicate that Acer only plans to test and support its own systems rather than impose a technical restriction. However, buyers should wait for clearer compatibility details before assuming the handheld will work with every Windows or Linux gaming PC.
The Linux foundation also creates uncertainty around services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming. Acer is primarily advertising local PC streaming, and it has not confirmed official cloud gaming support for launch.
Price Will Decide Whether the Idea Works
Acer has not announced the final price, but the Nitro Blaze Link will need to remain affordable to make sense.
A streaming only handheld offers fewer capabilities than a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or other portable PC. It cannot run demanding games independently, and its usefulness depends on access to a suitable host computer and a reliable local network.
Lower hardware costs give Acer room to price the device below native gaming handhelds. The company has avoided an expensive processor, large memory configuration, and high capacity SSD, which are among the main factors increasing the cost of portable gaming PCs.
The Nitro Blaze Link could appeal to people who already own a powerful gaming laptop or desktop and mainly want a comfortable way to play around the house. Its value will depend on price, battery life, streaming latency, and whether Acer expands official support beyond its own computers.
