Xbox Still Has Two Major First Party Releases Left in 2026 With Modern Warfare 4 and World of Warcraft Forever

Xbox still has two major first party releases scheduled before the end of 2026, and both could become some of the company's strongest revenue generators of the year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, while World of Warcraft: Forever follows on November 4. The two games arrive after a year in which Xbox has already released major titles including Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons 2 and Gears of War: E Day.

Unlike several other Xbox releases this year, Modern Warfare 4 will not join Xbox Game Pass on day one. That could make direct sales especially important for the latest Call of Duty entry.

Modern Warfare 4 Could Be One of Xbox's Biggest Sellers of 2026

Call of Duty remains one of Microsoft's largest gaming properties, and Modern Warfare 4 is launching across several platforms rather than being limited to Xbox hardware.

The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S and other platforms on October 23.

Its absence from Game Pass at launch makes this year's release particularly interesting from a commercial perspective. Players who want access immediately will need to purchase the game instead of relying on a subscription.

World of Warcraft: ForeverNovember 4, 2026PC only at launch

That gives Modern Warfare 4 a very different business model from titles that arrive through Game Pass on day one.

If demand remains strong, the game could generate substantial direct sales revenue before the end of the year.

World of Warcraft Forever Could Have Long Term Value

World of Warcraft: Forever is the final major Xbox first party release currently scheduled for 2026.

It launches on November 4 and is not coming to Xbox Series X|S at launch. Instead, it will begin on PC.

Despite that, Xbox leadership has already described the game as having a strong start ahead of its full release.

The same internal comments also highlighted Gears of War: E Day and Minecraft Dungeons 2 as strong performers while noting a 30 percent increase in positive Xbox brand sentiment over the past year.

World of Warcraft has the advantage of being built around long term engagement rather than a single launch period.

If Forever attracts a large and stable audience, subscriptions, expansions and continued player spending could generate revenue for years rather than only during the launch window.

That makes its potential difficult to compare directly with a conventional premium game.

Controller Support Could Matter for a Future Xbox Version

Blizzard has not announced an Xbox console version of World of Warcraft: Forever.

However, controller support has already been added in time for launch, and the game reportedly works well on devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally X.

That naturally raises the possibility of a future console version, although nothing has been confirmed.

A move to Xbox Series X|S would give Microsoft another major title for its console audience, but any suggestion that World of Warcraft could become an Xbox console exclusive remains speculation rather than an announced plan.

For now, the confirmed launch remains PC only.

Xbox's 2026 Performance Is Not Finished Yet

It would be premature to judge Xbox's entire first party year only by the games that have already launched.

Modern Warfare 4 and World of Warcraft: Forever represent two very different opportunities.

Modern Warfare 4 could generate large premium sales immediately because it is skipping Game Pass at launch, while World of Warcraft: Forever could become a long term source of recurring revenue.

The source argues that either could eventually outperform some of Xbox's earlier 2026 releases commercially, although that remains an expectation rather than a confirmed outcome.

With both releases still ahead, Microsoft's gaming year has two of its most commercially important launches still to come.
