Xbox’s latest Insider update is giving achievements a little more personality.
The new update introduces tiered Gamerscore badges, which change as a player’s lifetime Gamerscore grows. These badges are meant to show long term achievement progress directly on a player’s profile.
The badge system starts at lower milestones and scales upward, with designs evolving as players reach higher Gamerscore totals. Xbox has shown badges going up to 5 million Gamerscore, while a 10 million tier has also been teased for the future.
| New Xbox feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gamerscore badges | Shows lifetime Gamerscore milestone on profile |
| Badge progression | Badge design evolves as score increases |
| Current visible range | Up to 5 million Gamerscore |
| Future tease | 10 million Gamerscore badge |
| Availability | Rolling out to Xbox Insiders first |
This is not the full achievement overhaul many Xbox fans have been waiting for, but it is still a useful step. Achievements have always been one of Xbox’s strongest identity features, yet the system has felt underused compared with PlayStation’s trophy setup, especially because PlayStation has Platinum trophies as a clear completion reward.
Gamerscore badges do not solve that completely. They do not replace a Platinum style reward, and they do not change how individual game achievements work. But they do make long term achievement hunting more visible, which should matter to players who have spent years building their score.

The update also includes Xbox’s new boot animation, which was recently teased by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. That animation is now rolling out for Insider testing.
Xbox is also adding new game library filters. These are meant to make it easier to sort and navigate owned games, with filters for things like accessibility, genres, languages, and game access.
| Other Insider update additions | Purpose |
|---|---|
| New boot animation | Fresh startup experience |
| Library filters | Easier game discovery and sorting |
| Accessibility filters | Helps players find suitable games |
| Genre and language filters | Better library organization |
The update fits Xbox’s recent push to improve the user experience through smaller, more regular changes. It comes after Asha Sharma promised more consistent updates, and it follows earlier achievement related work from Xbox.
For achievement hunters, the Gamerscore badges are the highlight. They make profile progress feel more meaningful and give players another reason to care about their lifetime score.
There is still room for a much bigger achievements refresh. Xbox could still use better completion tracking, more profile customization, improved achievement showcases, and something closer to a Platinum style reward. But this update at least shows Xbox is paying attention to achievements again.
For now, the new badges are rolling out to Xbox Insiders first. As always with Insider builds, there may be bugs, so most users should wait for the stable release unless they are comfortable testing early features.
