Valve Adds Steam Frame Purchase Windows as Reservation Queue Continues

Valve is giving Steam Frame customers a clearer idea of when they may be able to purchase the device, adding estimated order windows directly to the Steam Frame product page.

The change comes as Valve continues working through a large reservation queue following the launch of the Steam Frame. Some units have already started reaching customers, but many people on the waitlist still do not know exactly when their opportunity to order will arrive.

The updated product page can now indicate whether a reservation is expected to become available in December 2026 or sometime in 2027.

For people placed in the 2027 group, Valve plans to provide more detailed timing information in January.

Steam Frame Reservations Now Show an Estimated Window

Valve says the new system is intended to provide more transparency around the reservation process.

Customers can check the Steam Frame product page associated with their account to see whether an estimated purchase period has been assigned.

Valve also reiterated that customers are not being allowed to jump ahead of others in the reservation queue.

As additional inventory becomes available, more people will be moved forward and given the opportunity to purchase a unit.

The estimate does not appear to be available to everyone immediately. Some reservation holders may still see no projected purchase window on their account.

That suggests Valve is continuing to update the system as it gains a clearer picture of production and availability.

Valve Releases Steam Frame CAD Files

Alongside the reservation update, Valve has released CAD files for the Steam Frame.

These files contain detailed 3D models of the hardware and are particularly useful for companies or individuals developing accessories.

Accessory manufacturers can use the models to check dimensions, mounting points and other physical details without needing a Steam Frame directly in front of them.

That could speed up development of cases, mounts, stands and other compatible accessories.

Releasing hardware design files has also become a useful way for Valve to encourage community development around its devices.

Steam Frame Software Is Still Being Updated

Valve also used the announcement to highlight software improvements that have already been released for the Steam Frame.

The device has continued receiving updates since launch, including changes aimed at performance, compatibility and battery efficiency.

One recent SteamOS update reportedly improved Steam Frame battery life by up to 12 percent, while Valve has also worked on troubleshooting tools and compatibility improvements for the platform.

More than 150 games have already received Steam Frame Verified status, indicating that Valve is continuing to build out the software ecosystem alongside hardware availability.

Demand Is Still Outpacing Immediate Availability

The main problem for prospective Steam Frame buyers remains the size of the reservation queue.

Although units are shipping, not everyone who reserved one can purchase immediately.

Valve's new estimated windows do not eliminate the wait, but they provide customers with a better indication of whether they should expect an order opportunity before the end of 2026 or sometime during 2027.

People placed in the later group should receive another update in January with more specific timing.

The change makes the reservation process more predictable while Valve continues increasing availability. For anyone still waiting for a Steam Frame, the product page is now the main place to check for an estimated purchase window.
