Grand Theft Auto 6 could receive its multiplayer component in 2027, according to comments from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, although Rockstar Games has not officially announced a release window for the next version of GTA Online.
Clancy said Twitch has spent significant time speaking with Rockstar about its plans and how the streaming platform can involve creators around GTA 6.
While discussing the expected surge in interest surrounding the game's launch, he said Twitch expects an even larger increase the following year when Rockstar launches multiplayer.
His comments provide one of the clearest indications yet that a new GTA multiplayer experience may be planned for 2027, but the information should still be treated cautiously. Rockstar and parent company Take Two have not publicly confirmed the date, the product's official name, or how it will be distributed.
Twitch CEO points to a 2027 multiplayer launch
Clancy did not refer to the project as Grand Theft Auto Online 2. That name remains unofficial.
His comments instead referred broadly to multiplayer arriving next year after GTA 6 launches in November 2026.
| Detail | Current information |
|---|---|
| GTA 6 release date | November 19, 2026 |
| Launch platforms | PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S |
| GTA 6 launch focus | Single player |
| New multiplayer window | 2027, according to Twitch CEO |
| Official GTA Online 2 name | Not confirmed |
| Rockstar announcement | None yet |
| Current GTA Online support | Continuing after GTA 6 launch |
The claim is notable because Clancy indicated that Twitch has been directly discussing Rockstar's plans rather than simply commenting on industry rumors.
He also said the companies have talked about ways to involve Twitch creators, suggesting streaming and creator coverage could play an important role when GTA 6 and its eventual multiplayer component arrive.
Rockstar is still keeping multiplayer details private
The reported 2027 timing sits alongside recent statements showing Rockstar and Take Two are currently keeping the public focus on GTA 6's single player release.
Take Two has confirmed that GTA Online will continue receiving support after GTA 6 launches.
At the same time, reports have indicated that the company does not plan to discuss the next GTA Online experience in detail anytime soon.
That means Clancy's comments should not be interpreted as an official Rockstar announcement.
There is still no confirmed information about whether the multiplayer experience will be included with GTA 6, sold separately, offered as a free to play product, or launched under a completely different business model.
The current GTA Online could also remain active alongside its successor for some time.
Creator engagement could be a major part of the launch
Twitch has an obvious interest in Rockstar's next multiplayer game.
Grand Theft Auto has remained one of the most visible franchises across livestreaming platforms, helped by GTA Online, role playing servers, challenge runs, and creator driven communities.

Clancy suggested that the initial GTA 6 launch will generate a large increase in activity, followed by an even larger wave when multiplayer arrives.
That expectation would explain why Twitch is already discussing creator engagement with Rockstar.
A separate multiplayer launch could also give Rockstar another major marketing period after the single player game's release rather than introducing both experiences at the same time.
2027 remains unconfirmed
For now, 2027 is best viewed as an informed claim rather than a fixed release date.
Rockstar has not formally announced a multiplayer successor, and development schedules can change.
The company could reveal more information after GTA 6 launches, particularly once attention shifts away from the initial single player release.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
If Clancy's comments reflect Rockstar's current internal plans, players may spend the first months with GTA 6 as a single player game before a new multiplayer experience follows sometime in 2027.
