Valve's Steam Machine can deliver 4K gaming at 60 FPS in several PC games, although performance depends on graphics settings and upscaling technology.
Recent testing identified five games capable of reaching this target, including PRAGMATA, Dishonored, PAYDAY 2, Disgaea 5 Complete, and Iron Nest.
While some titles run smoothly at native 4K resolution, more demanding games require reduced visual settings or upscaling to maintain consistent performance.
The results provide a clearer picture of what Steam Machine owners can expect when connecting the system to a 4K television.
PRAGMATA Reaches 4K 60 FPS With Upscaling
PRAGMATA is among the more demanding titles tested on the Steam Machine.
Reaching 60 FPS at a 4K output resolution requires lowering Mesh Quality, disabling Screen Space Reflections, and enabling FSR 3 Ultra Performance mode.
However, FSR 3 introduces noticeable image quality compromises.
An alternative is HelixSR, which enables DLSS 3.7 upscaling on supported hardware through an additional software solution.
Testing found that HelixSR provided improved image quality compared with FSR 3 while maintaining the required performance.
Occasional camera movement stutters were still observed.
Dishonored, PAYDAY 2 and Disgaea 5 Perform Well at 4K
Older and less demanding games demonstrate stronger performance without extensive graphics adjustments.
Dishonored runs at 4K resolution and 60 FPS using its highest graphics settings.

Disgaea 5 Complete also maintains smooth performance at 4K, making it suitable for playing on a large television.
PAYDAY 2 performs well at its default graphics settings, maintaining 60 FPS during several heists tested on Mayhem difficulty.
However, more demanding scenarios may require additional adjustments.
Best Steam Machine Settings for 4K 60 FPS
| Game | Recommended configuration |
|---|---|
| PRAGMATA | Low Mesh Quality, reflections disabled, Ultra Performance upscaling |
| Disgaea 5 Complete | Native 4K |
| Dishonored | Native 4K, highest settings |
| PAYDAY 2 | Native 4K, default settings |
| Iron Nest | Very Low settings without upscaling |
Iron Nest offers two approaches to achieving 60 FPS at a 4K output.
Medium settings with FSR Balanced mode can reach the target, but noticeable flickering affects image stability.
Using Very Low settings without upscaling produces a more consistent image, despite reduced graphical detail.
These results suggest that Steam Machine owners can enjoy 4K gaming across different genres, provided they adjust visual settings according to each game's performance requirements.
