Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is a new story driven third person action adventure game from Bloober Team, with Ro Laren returning as the lead character. The game is planned for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
The project was revealed during IGN Live Showcase 2026 and is being developed by Bloober Team, the studio known for the Silent Hill 2 remake and several psychological horror games. Paramount Games Studio is publishing the title, marking another major step in its plan to expand Star Trek into new interactive stories.
Michelle Forbes is returning as Ro Laren, the Bajoran character many Star Trek fans know from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard. In Shadow Frontier, Ro crashes on a remote planet controlled by a strange planet wide consciousness. The setting is dangerous, unstable, and built around psychological pressure as much as physical threat.
The story follows Ro as she tries to survive the planet, understand what has taken control of it, and face disturbing visions tied to her own memories. The more she explores, the more the world seems to twist around her. The planet is not only hostile in a normal environmental sense. It appears to attack her mind, distort reality, and use the terrain itself as a weapon.
Bloober Team is bringing psychological tension into the Star Trek universe
Star Trek games often focus on exploration, moral choices, space travel, and team based adventure. Shadow Frontier appears to take a darker path while still keeping the franchise’s sense of discovery. Bloober Team is building the game around exploration, puzzles, combat, and cinematic story moments.
Ro will use familiar Star Trek tools during gameplay. The Tricorder will help her scan and study objects, while the Phaser will be used for combat and puzzle solving. The hostile world will also include creatures shaped by the planet’s unusual ecosystem, forcing players to decide when to fight and when to escape.
This structure fits Bloober Team’s usual strength, which is atmosphere. The studio has often built games around fear, memory, trauma, and unreliable spaces. Shadow Frontier seems to apply that style to Star Trek by turning an alien planet into both a physical threat and a psychological maze.

The game will mix survival, mystery, and classic Star Trek technology
The early description suggests Shadow Frontier will not be a pure horror game, even though Bloober Team’s style is clearly part of the pitch. Paramount Games Studio described the project as a way to honor Star Trek while also pushing the franchise into a different kind of experience.

That balance will matter. Star Trek has a long history of thoughtful science fiction, ethical questions, and character driven drama. A darker thriller can work well inside that world if it still respects those foundations. Ro Laren is also a strong choice for this type of story because her character already carries a complicated past, personal conflict, and a deep connection to duty.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno said the studio has long been passionate about science fiction and wants to bring its own psychological thriller layer to the Star Trek universe. Paramount Games Studio also said it chose Bloober because of the studio’s experience with atmospheric games.
The Steam page already lists early PC requirements. The preliminary minimum specs mention an AMD Ryzen 2700 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 1660 graphics card. Since the game is still planned for 2027, those requirements may change before launch.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is still far from release, but the reveal gives the franchise a different kind of game to watch. Instead of a large scale space strategy title or a traditional crew adventure, this is a focused thriller about survival, memory, and discovery on a planet that seems determined to break Ro Laren before she can escape.
