Saros lets you beat its tutorial boss, but the fight is meant to punish impatience

Saros opens with a brutal boss fight against the Consort, and most players are expected to lose. The game throws you into this battle before you have many of the abilities that make later fights easier, including Parry, Power Weapons, and Second Chance. Still, the boss is not impossible. With careful movement, smart shielding, and a lot of patience, players can defeat the Consort and earn early upgrade resources.

The reward for winning is a cache of Lucenite and 1 Halcyon. These are useful because they can help you start upgrading your suit earlier than normal. However, the real reason to beat the boss is pride. This is one of those fights that feels designed to test whether you can stay calm while the game gives you very few tools.

The Consort fight is less about damage and more about learning when not to attack

The biggest mistake players can make is treating the Consort like a normal opening boss. You cannot rush it. At this point in the game, your health is low and your options are limited. You only have the Handcannon, so your main job is to survive long enough to slowly reduce the boss’s health.

The Handcannon has auto-aim, which helps a lot. You do not need to focus too much on perfect aiming. Instead, hold down the trigger when it is safe and keep most of your attention on movement. If lasers or dangerous projectiles are on screen, stop thinking about damage and focus on staying alive.

The boss uses different types of attacks, and each one needs a different response.

Consort attackBest response
Red projectilesDodge, because they can break your guard
Blue homing bulletsUse your shield and keep moving
Ground shockwavesJump over them instead of blocking
Vertical lasersWatch for the glow and dodge at the right moment
Red homing bulletsDodge first, shield only as backup

Your safest attack windows come when there are no lasers on the screen. Lasers make the fight much harder to read because they limit your movement and punish bad positioning. When the screen is clear, you can fire at the boss while still preparing for the next pattern.

The Handcannon’s alternate fire is not the best option here. It can be inaccurate unless you are very close, and getting close to the Consort is dangerous. The boss can release a red burst around its body, which can quickly punish players who try to stay near it for extra damage.

So the safer plan is simple: stay at a distance, use regular fire, and keep moving. Your shield should mainly be used against blue projectiles. Red attacks should be dodged. If you mix those up, the fight can end very quickly.

Beating the Consort does not unlock a rare secret weapon or a huge story change. It gives you early resources and a strong sense of achievement. That makes it more of a challenge run moment than something every player needs to do.

For most people, losing to the boss and moving forward is normal. But if you want to prove you can beat Saros with only the starting kit, the Consort can be defeated. The key is to stop chasing damage and treat survival as the real goal.
