PS5 Pro Used Price Hits $1,399.99 at GameStop, $500 Above Its Own New Price

GameStop is asking $1,399.99 for a pre-owned PlayStation 5 Pro, which is $500 more than the $899.99 the same retailer charges for a new one. The new listing is marked Currently Unavailable, so the used console is the only version that can actually be put in a basket.

Both figures sit on the same GameStop product page, checked on October 8, 2026. The gap is not a bundle, a typo or a rounding error.

What GameStop’s own listing shows

The page for the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro offers three conditions. New is $899.99 and unavailable, Pre-Owned is $1,399.99, and Refurbished is also $1,399.99.

Only the used and refurbished options have a working Add to Cart button. GameStop’s own structured data marks both of them as in stock.

Members of the GameStop Pro program are shown $1,329.99 instead. That is still $430 above what the retailer wants for a new unit.

A separate GameStop listing for the PS5 Pro with a disc drive installed is $1,499.99 in both pre-owned and refurbished condition. GameStop publishes no numbered condition grade for the console, and the page says only that pre-owned and refurbished systems may vary.

Sony’s own price for the same console

Sony set the US price of the PS5 Pro at $899.99 effective April 2, 2026. The announcement came from Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, who said the increase reflected continued pressures in the global economic landscape.

Sony’s own store lists the PlayStation 5 Pro Console 2 TB at $899.00, a cent under the announced figure. That page also reads Currently Unavailable and tells shoppers to check back later.

Sony does not sell a refurbished PS5 Pro at all. Its certified refurbished page offers only the PS5 Digital Edition at $499.00 and the standard PS5 at $549.00, and both are listed as unavailable.

The console is hard to buy new anywhere

On October 8, 2026, the PS5 Pro could not be bought new at its official price from Sony, GameStop or Target. Target lists it at $899.99 but offers a store check rather than shipping.

Best Buy shows no price of its own. The only purchase block on its product page comes from marketplace sellers, who list new units between $1,519.67 and $1,672.90.

Best Buy does not list a used or open-box PS5 Pro, so the used-above-new pattern cannot be confirmed at a second retailer. GameStop’s listing is one data point, not evidence of a market-wide trend.

Supply has been constrained for months. Sony went as far as running a Japan-only PS5 Pro lottery that required 60 hours of playtime to enter, and console prices have been climbing ahead of this year’s biggest releases.

Demand for the hardware is easy to explain. It remains the only PlayStation that Final Fantasy VII Revelation targets at 4K and 60 fps.

What has not been confirmed

An internal GameStop memo has been reported to describe the higher used price as intentional. GameStop has not publicly confirmed that memo, and accounts of it disagree on whether the change took effect on October 6 or October 16.

Neither company has published a reason for the gap. Sony’s March announcement did not mention tariffs or component costs, although its filing for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 calls the continued surge in memory prices a key business challenge for the year.

That same filing says Sony has secured the memory it needs to hit its PS5 sales plan for the year. GameStop’s newsroom has published nothing about PS5 Pro pricing, and both the price and the stock position can change without notice.
