The Pokemon Trading Card Game has officially revealed its next Japanese expansion, Munikis Zero, introducing Mega Zygarde as the set’s headline card. The reveal continues the TCG’s renewed focus on Mega Evolution, a mechanic that recently returned after a long absence.
Munikis Zero draws heavy inspiration from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, expanding the current Mega Evolution era with new Pokemon ex cards, Trainer support, and Fighting-type synergies. The set is scheduled to launch in Japan on January 23.
Mega Zygarde Joins The Mega Evolution Era
Mega Zygarde ex serves as the centerpiece of Munikis Zero, featuring high-impact attacks designed for late-game pressure. One attack reduces incoming damage, while another can scale to extreme damage totals under specific conditions.
The card positions Mega Zygarde as a potential build-around option for Fighting-type decks, especially in formats that already support Mega Evolution strategies.
New Pokemon And Trainer Cards Revealed
Alongside Mega Zygarde ex, the set introduces additional Pokemon ex cards, including Meowth ex, which focuses on Supporter card access and deck consistency. Binacle and Barbaracle also appear, offering new Energy-related support for Fighting-type builds.
Munikis Zero adds multiple Trainer cards tied directly to Pokemon Legends: Z-A. New Supporters allow players to recycle Fighting Pokemon, reset hands, and manage resources more aggressively during longer matches. As expected, the online gaming community is in a buzz.
Lumiose City And New Energy Options
The expansion includes a new Lumiose City Stadium card, enabling quick Bench setup at the cost of ending a turn. This mechanic mirrors the faster pacing introduced in recent Mega Evolution-focused sets.
Fighting-type decks also receive a new Special Energy card that blocks non-damage effects from opposing attacks, offering additional protection against disruption-heavy strategies.
When Munikis Zero May Release Globally
The Pokemon Company has not confirmed an English release date for Munikis Zero. Based on previous release patterns, the expansion is expected to arrive internationally as part of a main set in late March or early April.
Munikis Zero is expected to follow Mega Dream ex and further bridge the TCG with upcoming Legends Z-A content, keeping Mega Evolution at the center of competitive and collector interest.
